There 's nothing there. Just some advice and instructions on the "today's special" page. What the hek? I always miss it. I looked this morning too and there no specials listed. Are specials only posted for a couple of hours now? Why doesn't he just make a few dozen so the sale will go on for a couple of days instead of 2hrs? He makes 3 kits and that's the sale of the day it looks like.. First lucky 3, first serve..

Maybe I can call him and custom order the Arctic spring, guides and seal? Has anyone tried calling? Does he answer the phone? It looks like he wants everyone to fax in their orders..

oops

January 19 2008, 9:55 PM

I meant Herb!

$119 is a little steep. Normally most kits that include spring and guides are around $79, no? Springs alone are around $30.. A seal is usually $8-10 so I would have expected this kit to be around $89-99.
I wonder maybe because there is great demand for 350 stuff, that he raised the price. There is no regular 350 kit on the long list of spring kits he sells, so I 'm sure he gets many e-mails and requests for a 350 kit. I just need to know if the Arctic kit is a full-power kit like the one he has for the 460. I e-mailed him again about an hour ago. I did not get a reply from him a couple of weeks ago. I doubt I 'll get one now, but you never know. I suggested that he puts up a little section somewhere on the web site, describing what Arctic is, GRT, Vulcan, etc. and then I said I 'm interested in the Arctic one for the 350. He might respond to a "suggestion". We 'll see.

extra cost in machining steel

January 19 2008, 10:01 PM

rather than the normal high quality guides supplied . I do not know all the gritty details of the kits contents - but I do recall "steel" being part of the description. I don't know what the arctic name means either , but I have an Arctic in the Panther and the R7 will have one also .  The kits JM makes are worth the cost .

wow Rick..

January 19 2008, 10:13 PM

You installed a JM Arctic spring in the Panther 34 already? Didn't you get that gun 3-4 days ago? You don't waste anytime! So what difference do you notice between the stock spring and the Arctic? How does the gun behave now?

Wait.. how could you tell, when you hardly shot the 34 stock and tuned it right away?

Guess the steel and the seal....

January 20 2008, 6:27 AM

are the deal on the price - possibly the limited demand too. This sort of
thing doesn't just happen with 350s. JM does his thang his way.

Beats me what the 'artic' is about - maybe some cryo (?) or cold treatment
process? I believe the spring is the Three-Nine Ultra 39 coils, .128" wire
diameter, .568" ID and 14.25" unset OAL.

Paul Watts used the JM 350 spring in a 350 carbine (12" bbl) he did for me.
That gun was 1-2 FPE less powerful than a 'healthy' stock/factory full length
barrelled 350M .22 using mid-weight ammo. So my guess is the JM spring would
deliver full factory power - possibly slightly more. As you may know - same
caliber, model springers vary a tad to a few tads in power

I have a Three-Nine Ultra just sitting in my spring drawer lubed and in a
plastic sealed bag. $20 includes shipping to anyone that wants it here in
the lower 48 states.

Herb

Springs and such

January 20 2008, 5:05 PM

On Jims forum he does hint that the A.R.C.T.I.C. has to do with the process in the sping making and NOT Cryogenic processes! Although someone suggested A Really Cool Thing In Cylinders as a possible meanign but Jim has not fessed up so far. I really just like the springs anyway.

For the price of the Kit. The GRT kit uses plastic/brass vs all steel. Think of that for labor on turning plus the addition of the seal.

JM replied to my e-mail!

January 20 2008, 5:44 PM

Rick thanks I got your e-mail. Good info buddy! The gun stayed stock only 2 days hey? You 're nuts Maybe that's some kind of record for the Guiness book of airgun records?

JM's reply is below. It did not answer my question to him which basically was: "Is the arctic kit a full-power spring that I 've been looking for my 350?" I would like to say that JM says in a couple of places on his web site, that he cannot sell guides if you have bought the spring seperately already, but he contradicts that here and says the Arctic spring will fit fine in the factory guides. He says on the web site every spring is matched to the guides when they are made, so he cannot sell guides and hoping it would fit your spring like a glove.
Having read that, I would really rather get an "Arctic kit" if he makes one that includes custom guides (and seal), rather than using the 350's guides. That's my plan anyway.

In any case here 's what he wrote which doesn't tell me a hek of a lot and didn't really answer my questions except the one I asked: "what does Arctic mean and how is it different than others" His reply covers that but not much else about the power the spring provides, and if he has any available for my 350, or do I need to custom order one, etc. He didn't bother answering those. Maybe this was a "canned reply" that he has in a text or Word file that he sends to everyone?

""Dear Sir,
As Todays Specials indicate the items are listed when
made. When it sells out it automatically delisted.
When I list the parts I list the info from the TX kit
to explain the spring. Here it is as it relates to a
TX-others as well except dimensions,

5. New Arctic SG Mainspring. This spring was designed
for the new TX200's with the .558-.560 OD guides (
latest model) The spring is .560 ID x 30 coils x 128
wire.

It is wound in house from the finest wire and goes
through 7 days of processing thereafter. Each is
pre-set and ready to install on your guns guides. Kit
buyers will have the option to buy spare springs in
the future- consumer quantity only""

I enquired about which kit to buy for my HW80K and he e-mailed me back saying that if I hunted in cold climates not to get the steel kit[it is better but not when it's freezing out]Harold

that's not good for me. The hunting season is in the winter time here in NY! Nothing but freezing and sub-freezing temps here.

If you buy the spring separately

January 23 2008, 10:30 AM

get it "set" for an extra $1 . You *know* how I know this LOL

The arctic does fit the guide fine,a bit tighter than oem . That is where the kits advantage comes in - better yet on the fit . Really helps on keeping things smooth and less noise yet.

Arctic - I've reached the conclusion: what it means is irrelevant. They just work better.
Pick up the moly lube and a small jar of velocity tar (a seal or two if available ) while you're at it .

the kit from JM is it 39 coils by .560 x .128 wire, if so it is the same as the GRT kit for $69.00 plus shipping or the 33 coils kit?

if so then it is the same kit different name. JM names the same kit with a different name

Gee Rocky! Wanna see me pull a rabbit

January 23 2008, 10:35 PM

outta my hat ? LOL

39 coils or 33 coils . The springs steel 'might' be the same as well as i.d. & o.d. but I think after that all bets are off . Just guessing though as I buy the stuff & don't make it . JM has the recipe for good springs and the real answer is his baby .
