Im new to this site,I see alot of You love RWS Diana just like me. For what it is worth, when I first tested my 460 I was disappointed, fps. just was not as advertised. I was "power hungry" & disappointed! I will say RWS Diana is the BEST, & can report my 460 w/Cros. Silver Eagles does over 1400 fps. any time I decide to take the risk of shooting them! Ive learned & Kodiaks & CPH give me best groups & power!Just a note to the naysayers (myself inc.)! Under 950 is GOOD! Tim.
Warren, My 460 is 177. I tested & posted results for B.B. last week. This is what I got: 5 shot groups:Cros. prem.,7.9,1077-1089 fps.,,Kodiak Match,884-893,,Raptors,1241-1267,, Sil. Eag., 1405-1423. (honest). Umarex did replace my mainspring, but I doubt I got anything special.(chrony 3 ft. from muzzle) I DONT shoot the "gizmo" pels. in my guns, was just testing! Anyway, hope this helps. Tim.
Man,I wish I had your action to put my .22 barrel on. That 460 is kickin a$$ and takin names. My .22 350 is a brute compared to "my" .22 460.( Meaning it sure isn't like yours). That thing is whalin pellets dude !
Ok, I never will post anything not true as I see it. Im not on anyones payroll,& promise Im only posting for us, RWS Diana people. Today I re tested my 460 IN 177 CAL.,,As we all know, chrony results & atmospheric conditions can vary to some degree. (also against popular opinion I have seen fps. vary w/ spring guns w/ a major temp. change) Today I noticed slightly lower fps. than my last post, but not by much. RWS 460 M. 177,,Cros. prem.,,1053-1067,,, Kodiak match,,863-878,,, The dreaded raps.,,,1220-1237,, And for those of you that may not know,Cros, Silver Eagles are "TRICK" pellets that are only about 4.8 gr. & totally not suitable for any air gun I own, much less a "MAGNUM" like the 460, I still got 1403& 1417 for what its worth. Im bout kicked off anyway,so Ill say,,Those Silver Eagles make more noise than a 22 L.R. any day!!!! They are great to impress your friends as to the "power" of your airgun! There also great if you want to send your gun back to Umarex for a mainspring replacement!!! Better yet if 177,,try Kodiaks,CP heavys,or Crow Mags.---- Just my last 2 cents before "KICKOFF" Timster.
Do not use the raptors or any other non-lead pellet or ultra light pellets. You will damage the gun and possibly the rifling of the bore with non-lead pellets. Like you suggested, use only heavy .177 pellets like the CP Heavies, JSB exacts heavy & Kodiaks. These pellets have the highest Ballistic coefficient anyway, are very accurate and hit hard. You want <1,000fps pellets to be accurate. That's what Magnum springers work best with. Thos 4 or 5gr pellets is light dry firing the gun - not good. Maybe that's why you had a broken spring already! Throw them out.
Your CP Lights 7.9gr are not bad at all. The Kodiaks are a little slow but overall your #'s look good. Could be the 460 still needs some more break-in. Don't concern yourself too much with the chrony #'s. I haven't chronied mine in a couple of weeks. I 'm only going to do it once every month or two with 1 or 2 pellets, just to make sure there are no issues with the gun or leaks. I tested mine once a week for about 2-3 weeks in a row but I 'm done with that. I have piece of mind that my 350 shoots consistent velocity groups and shows no signs of a leak or damage.
Use those heavies and throw out the ultra-light ones and non-lead before you have another broken spring! heheh
I believe Tim, his #'s are of the chart and possible. the explanation for this is it's just that he has that GOLDEN gun. the one that is capable of spitting those pellets in those FPS. at the factory they assembled this one SPECIAL
at first i was, this guy is full of S, but some guns are exceptonal and he has one, thats it.
and not only those #'s he is posting but as he fire's the gun and it settles down he might have higher FPS from that gun unless he blows a seal with light pellets
again Tim you have a one of a kind 460, keep it and take care of it
warren
and remember "it's 30% the gun and 70% the shooter"
Warren: You make me feel like a dumb ass! My posts have been my HONEST results. I have NO REASON TO LIE!!. Did I say,, 177 cal. W/ Circus lite pels.?? Come on man, give me a break!! Please, I am only posting MY numbers!! Anyway, my chrony is probly busted, can you bring yours over so we can "make up" & Shoot some bottle tops?? Tim
Tim, have you spray or dripped anything at all down the air chamber in of the piston?
I hate to tell you guys, the high numbers Tim's reporting are either from a returned gun that the former user had maybe spritzed a little WD40 into, or... Tim, did you spray or drip something in there?
The other way to get outragious numbers is to dip the pellets in something combustible. That could do it too.
The reason is there is no way a factory rifle is going to top the velocity numbers with a factory spring. Even a JM spring is built for smoothness not power. This is because the rifles get incredibly harsh firing cycles when stuff is added ahead of the piston seal in order to combust and create more force. In fact, its a great way to burn up the seal and then when there's gaps in the burnt seal to the cylinder walls the spring has no air cushion to slow it down. The next thing that'll happen is spring failure. The spring will move forward with enough force (and no air cusion to slow it down) that it will slam into the end of the piston cylinder.
Tim, if you are putting anything down the hole where the piston compresses the air behind the pellet, please stop. You'll prematurely burn up your seals and most likely shatter the spring. If you aren't, maybe someone else has either before you or without your knowledge. If the rifle is still giving you that kind of power after a thousand shots without breaking, feel free to correct me. And explain to me how you think the rifle might have achieved that power. Its unusual and the only way I've heard people getting the numbers from their airguns that you have is by way of what I've written about in this post.
Harv, Yes I know about des.& det. If you & others look at my #s. with mainstreme pels. I dont think we would be having this discusion. The contravesy comes up over my 1400 fps. shooting 5 gr. Silver Eagles. I have seen this fps. more than once now. Twice to be honest. Iknow better than to ever introduce any kind of lubricant into anyplace on a "magnum" springer that WILL ultimatly find its way into the compression chamber. My 460 is "settled" down nicely now after over 1000 shots, w/ Crow Mags.,Kodiaks,or Cp heavys it pretty much stays under 1000 fps.. If I choose to take the gamble &shoot Silver Eagles, Then I swear it goes just over 1400 EVERY time! NO ACCURACY ! ( I know better!) If anyone else w/177 460 feels like vindicating me, shoot a Silv. Eag. across a chrony! For those that doubt me, remember we are talking about a pellet that is 4.8 gr.!! Yes I know,,,, BAD for my gun! But to the naysayers come to my house & Ill spit one across the chrony!! When you say wow your right, will you split w/ me costs of a new mainspring?? LOL. Tim.
No. I would not split the cost of a mainspring with you if you shot 4.8 grain pellets. I would probably shake my head at you when we both hear the funky sounds of TWO or more pieces of a mainspring rattling around inside your formerly new and awesome 460.
Tim. I'm glad you had some fun shooting ultralight pellets through your quality German made Diana 460 air rifle. But please, spend another 35 bucks and do that to a Chinese KLB3 Fast Deer instead.
