I'm asking because, although my Williams peep sight is a light little bugger its worked its way back toward the stop "pin". I'm thinking I'll reset it right against the pin and see how things turn out. My reasoning is its incredibly light compared to the pounding a scope's weight might inflict upon the pin and might actually be alright.
So... anyone have anything bad happen with that pin? In the case that no one has damaged that pin in actual shooting it may just be a rumor much the same as those plastic triggers having issues, which they never have in my own experience nor of anyone I know personally.
Harvy i spoke to Glen at umerax about this when i purchase my 46 and he told me not to worry just make sure the scope is tight . I will say that my crosman 1000 storm has a simular stop scrw and i never had a issue with it after 2000 plus shoots althought its rail is a grove on the steel berrel not a aluinume rail. i had a shooter at my club thats shot for over 40 years show me how he tightens scope mounts. he uses only 2 piece mounts as i do with the big screw slot nuts as bsa has. he places a penny in the screw slot and turns it with a pair of pliers holding the penny parallel in the jaws of the pliers . when the penny begins to bend he stops . let me tell you this is tight and i thought it was a poor way of doing it but i have never had a scope move . Hi Harvey.I have heard of the screw shearing off when used as a scope stop but havn't seen it myself. I have the Beeman sight you have mounted on my 34 against that screw for a couple of years now with no problems. At least 2k rounds this way.Hope this helps.
Gary
I'm another that uses 2 piece rings without a stop pin on my M34. The rear mount is up to the screw head, and it's never moved, the screw head is thus far unsheared. About 1500 shots in the last 4 months since it was mounted.
I've heard of them shearing as well, on various forums, but never seen it. I've read on those forums that the screw was actually intended to be a stop for an aperature sight, as you're using it. 'pearantly, they're the thing in Germany.
Crank the mount screws down as tight as is reasonable (the penny-as-torque guage method should work pretty well, so long as you actually use a copper penny... Modern ones are zinc and crack easily.). I just use a large flat blade screwdriver and crank'em just short of yeild. Good mounts use good screws, so real tight is the way! If you're stuck with just hex screws (which I prefer for anything that has to be serviced frequently, use quality allen keys and be sure they're fully seated before torquing.
Many thanks guys, that's exactly what I wanted to know. There are enough rumors across the internet that need to be documented or dispelled.
I can fully appreciate there will be the occasional (hopefully) failure of any part. What I gleaned from your experiences is that I shouldn't be concerned. That's good. lol
Sort of like the whole "plastic triggers are baaaaaad" fiasco that gets air time (pardon the airgun reference pun) from who knows who or where.
Harvey i remove that screw and applied blue locite to it to make sure it would not losen up before i used it as a stop althought it was so tight from the factory i do not believe i really had to. Marvin
I bought a used Diana 350 that had the screw ripped out of the hole.....

I don't know what the little screw if for; maybe it was designed as a stop for a peep sight? But I feel pretty certain that the factory didn't intend for it to stop a scope from creeping. Otherwise they would have made it a much larger in diameter screw!

Harvey,Degrease the screw and hole with rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and let it air dry.[evoporates]Before any using any Locktite[blue] you may want it off later! You shouldn't have any problems. The 48's were the ones shearing off the bolts if I remember correctly.Probably combined with inadequate mounts/improper mounting to boot! Harold
The stop pins that came with my Leapers mount sheared twice on my 350. At first the dug into the
rail and would slowly creep back but then they finally snapped. I solved it by drilling the hole deeper
and using a hardened screw cut to fit inside the scope mount. After 5000 shots it's still holding.
The "screw" I'm talking about is the one at the end of the scope rail. Its there on the rifle from the factory. The pins you're speaking of seem to be the ones that are under/through one side of the mounts, yes? I think we're talking about two different things.
The BKL-260-D7 is suposed to be the cats ass on RWS/Diana guns as it uses 6 cross bolts and no stop pin.The D-7 stands for droop .007" Been told they don't move ? Was going to get one for my son's 34/.22............Harold
I talked to an engineer at Leapers and suggested they make their 6X Bugbuster about 2" longer in the tube length to accomadate 1 piece mts. These have also been proven indestructable ,just too damned short for proper mounting! Perhaps someone who can change things will listen? Harold
Anyone acually sheer off the factory stop screw on their newer Diana?

Harvey, no, but pretty close! my 34 bent it alittle, my 48 was only a couple of shots from it! Half broke! I still find it hard to beleive that scew wont stop rear movement,,But it WONT!! My 54 w/ my super secret set up w/stock shallow pin hole is still working for me. I removed the scope from my 460 the other night (to sell it),,I looked at it tonight,, I set it up like BB. (Tom Gaylord) said,,hang stop pin over front of rail. Scope mount pin is sheared!! Goudges in mount! No damage to gun butWOW!! Seems a lowly 20 ft. lbs. airgun can kill scopes & mounts worse than a 30-06! I KNOW!! You know,, but that little screw stands NO chance! I think even a "peeper" would bust its ass! Shurly Diana hears us?? Come on Diana, you make the finest airguns, your scope mount leaves alot to be desiered!! Jeeeeezzzz Tim. (in USA)!
