on the .22 Panther . Talked with Harvey the other day.In the course of the conversation fiber optics were discussed . An idea was thrashed ...so me being me LOL I removed the optic rod from the front sight . That tiny hole combined with the alignment of the remaining post in the rear leaf makes a fine target sight . Thanks for the revelation Harv !

Works real good at 10m with a 3/4" spot as an aiming point .

of course the .22 Panther is more of a hunting gun than a 10m gun .
Woods guns look much better carbinized  Cut 6.5" off ,"Beat " a fairly consistant choke into it (as consistant as a 2#er will get - sorry Ima airhacker. Not the proper way - pay someone to do it correctly...trust me ),recrowned and blued the stub . POI dead on 6 o'clock. Really likes the 16g 5.52domes from PrecisionAirguns and Supplies . Thanks Jim and Nancy !!

Yes Harvey , the WGRS reciever sight is going to be *re*unwrapped ! Probably an .093" or .125" aperature will be used . "Irons" are indeed Good!

fiber optic

February 13 2008, 3:43 PM

I did that same thing on my p5g pistol because the optic was covering my 1 inch bulls eye targets at 16 yards . but what srarted happening at that yardage was it started shrinking the bulls eye into the front sight hole to the point that i could hardly see it. I had to shave the optic towers of finially brcause i ran out of elevation adjustment on the rear sight but i think at 10 m you have a winner Marvin

Re: barrel

February 13 2008, 4:54 PM

It ended up at 13 " + about 3/8 " for the front ramp . So it is setup similarly to the D40 - other than caliber ,iron sights and muzzle weight .

Been itching for a P5G in .22 - they make em , just don't import them ???

Re: 22 p5g

I'm thinking "cost prohibitive" . It may be easier and less expensive to find another importer of Dianas (say a Canadian shop) that *will* ship  a complete .22 P5G to the U.S.

I've seen a few price lists that show the muzzleweight/front sight on the P5's at $100+ and .177 barrels in the $50 range <--- those parts are almost the value of a complete gun !

your right

February 13 2008, 6:57 PM

The .177 is not bad although im not a hunter. what i like about the .177s is i get twice as many pellets for the same price as .22 for target use . Good luck Marvin

What type of chrony #'s are you getting with that short barrel.Im thinking of shortening the barrel on my 22 panther to the size of the "compact" version.Diana states the fpe is the same in both the 19 and the 15 inch barrel configureations.

Too soon to tell , Vince

February 14 2008, 6:23 PM

I had *just* completed the Panther and sent 10 pellets at a target to check zero . Workin like a dog (night shift one day,day shift the next) haven't had time to check the results on the Chrony . Give me a few minutes though and I'll run a few down range .

5 shot string of 14.3 CP's and 16.0 JSB Jumbo .
Chrony 12" from muzzle and indoors/lamped . Temp 82° and 10% humidity , baro 28.97 ^ .
13" barrel
CP = 700.7 avg , 4.14 es , 2.23 sd
JSB= 648.2 avg, 4.21 es , 1.73 sd

Factory length (19.5")
CP= 710 avg ,13.7 es ,7.0 sd
JSB=658 avg,5.4 es ,2.4sd

6.5" less barrel isn't much of a loss. Might need to adjust choke a little - need to really check accuracy before doing so .

Just realized that the Diana front ramp sight can be slid fwd quite a ways *and* does make a difference in how loud the gun is . ...food for thought
