I want to make my own Muzzle brake for my RWS 34 .22.

I don;t want to cut / turn threads on the barrel and I don't want to pin it if I can help doing that .
Has anyone made one that is a tight press on fit ?

Thanks Jerry

Press fit would be very difficult to achieve. The way I see it, you've got a couple choices.

Most aftermarket brakes/weights are retained by grub (set) screws. A pair in the bottom of the brake would do nicely. They're pretty unobtrusive there, and they'll do a decent job of retaining the brake. They will mar the surface they engage, tho. If you'll leave the brake on, this is just fine.

If you can bore holes accurately, you could try making the brake from brass or aluminum, and boring the hole for the barrel a thou or 2 undersized. Heat the finished brake (oven or torch), and quickly install it on the chilled (freezer) barrel. This will make the brake pretty permanant. It's called shrink fitting, and it's how many composite metal pieces are made.

Or, finally, bore the hole a decent size, then degrease the bore and the barrel, then JB weld the brake on the end.

Those are the things I'd try.

Good luck,

J

Jerry, Ive made many breaks myself. Slip ons ect. Its really hard to make a nice break, especially w/ "back yard" tools. Most looked "cool" But, most were a deterrant to good accuracy. (perfect alighnment is VITAL)! I still "play" around,, (when I have time),, Time is money,,I may be wrong,,check out Umarex, universal muz. break,,item # 2302655. Also ,"Charlie Da Tuna", makes some REALLY nice breaks/weights. Jason obviously knows more than me about "backyard" breaks. No offense Jason,,You have obvious mech. knowledge! Thousanths?? Im lucky to acheive hundreths!! Enter,, protect the crown, and even hope to acheive perfect alignment,,I wave the proverbial white "flag"!! I have a couple, that are my favorites,,,one made from an empty co-2 cart.,,holes PAINSTAIKENLY drilled,,polished to perfection. (never again) Too much work! FYI.,,Be carefull,,,No offense implied,,Check this out first,,

Just my 1 cents,, if I had 2 cents, maybee I could really be of some help!! Good luck guys! Tim.
