Dear Diana fans, receiving some e-mail from forum readers etc. their question came to introduce myself ! Well here we go: I am a Dutchman who is 100% interested in shooting ( air rifle, small caliber rim fire, the militairy M1 )and I know a lot about the Diana brand, try to make my collection of Diana's complete with the "special" models. Shooting every day some pellets because a day without air shooting is a day without soul ! My Christian name is Johannis, shortened to Jan an old fashioned MALE name in the Netherlands. Some forum members supposed I am a woman because the name Jan is in your country a female name, very funny !! From now on I will use the forum name Johannis. If you have some more questions about me, Diana air rifles etc. don't hesitate to send me an e-mail, best regards from Johannis. (IF YOU NEED SOMETHING FROM EUROPE FROM THE DIANA BRAND ALWAYS "AT YOUR SERVICE" .

nice to

February 21 2008, 9:47 AM

meet you Jan. Can we call you John? Just kidding.
Johannis comes from John the Baptist right? or some Saint John.. In Greek Orthodoxy Johannis is a very common name but without the "J". We use Iohannis and pronounce it "Eeoh-aanis" but it's all the same and that's where John or Johnathan comes from too. There are many variations.

Here in the States Jan is usually derived from Janice, a female name (feminine name for John), but I can call you Jan just fine

Glad to hear you have a large Diana collection. Can you tell us what you have so far? Your English is great btw. I understand you Dutchmen also speak several languages, like French and German as well, no? And of course your native Dutch. My first girlfriend was Dutch. I was 15 going on 16 at the time vacationing in Greece when I met her. Very good memories..

Dear Harry, nice to meet an USA citizen who visited Europe. Yes, English, German and French are the basic languages we learn during the first 3 years of what they call in the USA "High School". I was passing Greece during a 12000 km. tour with my RR Classic around South-East Europe a few years ago, super friendly people and very helpfull, I enjoyed my visit there. Perhaps you have Greec roots or your family ? Well later on I hope to post a link to my Diana's and esp. the pre war's. Thanks for welcoming and if you need something from my side of the world let me know, kind regards from Johannis ( you can call me whatever you want ........... )

Johannis

I was actually born in Athens and lived there for 14yrs before coming to NY. I have been to Germany 3 times. Actually Austria too because we always stopped there on the way back or on the way up. My dad used to love driving from Athens to Munich which was about a day's drive if you didn't sleep over somewhere. We always drove through Yugoslavia quickly because it was communist back then. We mostly visited Insbruck or Saltsburg (Osterreich/Austria) on the way back and one time Geneva, Switcherland. One other time we took a detour through Venice, Italy where we stayed overnight, then up to Switcherland and Austria and then back to Athens. My dad loved driving that '68 Mercedes 200. I was like 11yrs (70's) old and would ask him to step on it and go faster. And he would! We averaged 150-160km/hr (~95-100mph) most of the time. Most major highways did not have a speed limit back then. The last time we made the trip, Yugoslavian border guards ripped up the interior of his car badly and damaged it looking for drugs supposedly and my dad didn't want to make the trip anymore after that. We flew to Paris and London a couple of times too for the weekend. We used to get free airplane fare because my uncle was a captain in Olympic Airways. One other time we flew to Cairo too. The flights were so short, ~2-3hrs and we never had any jet lag.

Europe has changed a lot since.. One day I might make it to Holland. I 'm overdue for a nice long European vacation.

Good visit to our country !

February 22 2008, 1:37 PM

Sir, fantastic that your daughter liked it here and I hope that some matters who are allowed here didn't upset here. We don't see much Americans in our county here however it's one of the nicest parts of Holland. Let's hope she will visit our country again to have a closer look to the country side ! Best regards from Johannis.
