A while back I made some disparaging remarks about Diana’s open sights. (350 Mag)
I compared them unfavorably with my old M1 sights from years ago.
Well, my damaged Centerpoint scope has been waiting for a UPS pickup for almost two weeks now.
Having had to use the open sights for all that time, I must admit that they are not that bad..once you get used to them. It’s just that the sight picture was strange to me, kinda like a hooded church steeple just beyond a foxhole.
I consider myself fair enought to humbly apologize for my previous angry comments.
Most of the distributors carry these. Also places like Natchez and MidSouth. They run about $40 or so and mount to the rib like tipoff rings. Do some posts on the Yellow Forum and they may be able to advise you as to proper front sight height, et cetera.
Some people have better things to do than sit in front of a pc reading the forums all day. I wish I did.
Ctruth,Please help me out. Im new to computers,in the last few mo. I have learned alot, I can get here every day by myself & type w/ one finger to keep up w/ my "Buds". Not too long ago I learned what LOL meant,(I use it freqently now)!! I will try to learn "search"?? (Harve) LOL. Ctruth, you just used it,, Can you Please tell me what is "nt" ?? Thanks Tim.
Harv./Ctruth,Thanks guys. If Kimmie Sue gets home early enough Ill get her to help me w/info you guys provided. Even K.S. tells me,Dad, you use too many !!!,"-" (-)?? ,,,, Hmmmmmm? ect., I cant use my "regular" day to day "cussin" here, so it helps me to express myself. (simple minded yha know!). Ill try to refrain. Remember, Im just a simple minded redneck w/no puter skills,(who loves airguns more than anyone) & I have a dose of the "oldtimers"! Seriously, Thanks for the puter help my friends. Tim.

Sorry ct! I made the same sort of presumptive mistake I abhor so much in those who are computer literate who speak in 'unknown tongues' to old farts like myself. Mea Culpa!
I referred to the "Beeman Sport Aperture' sight. It is a peepsight with quick adjust knobs built by Williams to Robt. Beemans' original specifications to be almost universally adaptable to mounting on the sight rails of the majority of airguns. It is several degrees less sophisticated than true micrometer adjustable competition grade diopter sighting systems yet is a very adaptable and precisely adjustable sight little short of the match grade sights in practical results. They aren't cheap, ( a bit over $60 from most vendors) yet they surrender little advantage to optical sighting systems costing far more at PRACTICAL airgun hunting ranges. Nor are they subject to catastrophic failure caused by spring-piston dynamics as are optical sights. They are entirely adequate for those with uncorrected eyesight inside 40 yards and beyond for plinking, hunting and target useage and will not fall out of adjustment as 'scopes seem to do depending on planetary alignments and other more esoteric considerations.
Even for oldsters such as myself they yield a clear sight picture not available from true 'open' sights. They can be with impunity moved from gun to gun without concerns about frailty or damage. I have one or two that are old enough to vote in the coming Preidentail farce. I registered extreme interest in the Mendoza clone merely due to fiscal concerns centered around a 'fixed income'. ('political speak' for broke and needs to be fixed!) Tom @ Buzzard Bluff
You didn’t mention the Crosman 64 sight, so I won’t either.
With the Beeman Sport Aperture Sight, please tell me your recommendation for a front sight.
And while I will not mention the Crosman 64 Sight (as I promised), what is your opinion about the:

Perhaps a cop-out, but whatever will fit the front of your barrel! Most of the time the original front sight will work well with the Sport Aperture. It is those instances where the factory front sight is simply unacceptable to us that cause problems. Example: I spent a ridiculous amount of time yesterday hand fittiing with file and profanity an unidentified front sight to the refurb M-34 I rec'd. late last week. The original Diana front sight with the 'church steeple' barleycorn just won't work with my eyes. With the new sight fitted that accepts multiple choices of inserts I'm now equipped to try rear sights once my rathole again boasts of occupants.
I think of that sight as the El Gamo sight as my only experience with it was as fitted to an El Gamo M-126 Olympic grade match gun. I found it quite adequate for my purposes. Those more oriented toward outright 10 meter competition may well hold a different viewpoint.
<RedFeather kinda reminded me earlier in this thread that everyone in this forum is not retired, (like I am).
So, please respond in your own good time.>
If I don't do it now while it is fresh in memory I may well not recall to do it later. Tom
Much obliged. You have been quite thorough.
The other thread addressing open sights had a lot of great pictures and technical jargon, but not too much in the way of specifics for a rookie like me.
If I decide to mod my sights (wow look at me talking like real air gunner), I’ll definitely go with the Beeman Sport Aperture. What really sparked my interest was your comment about your “old eyes”. That’s me alright. Years of excessive computer use has ruined my eyes, (‘course age had nothing to do with it).
When I had to remove my scope, had a real problem focusing f and r and target. It got better (since I had no alternative), and I shot fairly well, but it was slow and cumbersome with a lot of refocusing and half guessing. It’s was a far cry from what I’d call “great”.
You've done your best. I hope not to have to trouble you on this particular subject again.
I think the Crosman sights may not be as robust as the Beeman (Williams). May want to check it out. On receiver sights, you get what you pay for. Now, if you could find an older Lyman or Redfield target model that is adaptable, that would be really nice. All steel and built like a Swiss watch.
