Vincenator asked What guns do I have and what have I done.

February 25 2008, 6:08 PM

I started with cheap Chinese rifles both in .22 and .177 as learners.Expermented with springs, transfer port modifications, honing.recrowning and finally the nasty triggers.
Next was a step up but still Chinese although I didn't know it when I bought it.I Thought all Crosmans were American made .177 Quest 1000X
Huh alot to learn.I have turned this rifle around to one of my sweetest shooters. It became an obsession with me to try and make it out shoot my best shooter a .22 RWS 48 LOL.Its close after many changes including sending to Rich in Mich for a Lother/Walther.20 cal. barrel swap.I did this because I got it shooting so fast it was breaking the sound barrier in.177 and you know what that means bye bye accuracy, detuning was not in my book for this rifle so next idea was to slow it down with a caliber change.
After reading all I could find about air rifle calibers I setteled on the .20 for many reasons such as flat trajectory.BC and retained energy.
My others include a 1981 Sheridan C9.20 cal total rebuild with tips from Tim at Mac1.It is now a semi steroid with modifications to hammer and valve.
A 1968 Crosman 700 .22 Pellmaster CO2,brought back from the dead.
Total rebuild no modifications, completly stock internals with new seals, refinished stock and reblued its a beauitiful little shooter and turned out to be a special Salesman's rifle for Crosman, with Fiddle Maple stock. This gun was given to Crosman salesman to sell to K-mart,Sears ETC. to show them the new model for 1968 and see how many they wanted to buy.
I have to many Daisy's to list but most are either Anniversary models or Special editions with Certificates of some sort.My favorite is the Model 25(I have 4)
4 pistols spring and CO2 I don't really like pistols, but have a serious problem with my addiction calling me to the new Diana Mag.Pistol.I know its just a matter of time before money and want get together and away I go.I am hoping they produce one in .22 that in its self would push me over the edge.
I still have alot to learn but have learned how to both gain power/or take away and make a real smooth shooter out of a rifle, with nice triggers that are light, safe and smooth including shorting length of pull.Being a retired welder I can make some serious changes to sears and trigger configurations. I hope this answers some of your questions
about air guns in general and what own.

Thank You for your kind forgivness

No apology needed

Bob, please let me be the first to welcome you to this forum. (you may already be a member) so maybe welcome back if that is the case. First, let me say, that you and Herb posted more logic than anyone else that posted to that question. Marcelo's sharing of tuning air guns is in fact all over the internet as Herb made quite clear. I spent the weekend searching for info and made a great file of his works for future use. I am what a lot of the posters here call a rookie to the air gun world and am trying to learn as much as possible. Some of the guy's here are not only "TRUE GURU'S" but also very willing to share information. I may be a rookie but I can tell the difference between the blowhards and the real tamale! Bill S., Zvp, Missy's DAD, Herb (Airbethere),etc are the real thing. Marcelo is one of the best craftsman in the air gun world. I may be a rookie, but some things in this world are obvious. I was very moved by your comments. I was very fortunate to have Marcelo tune a gun for me. His sincere enthusiasm and excitement to show me his trade is as real as it gets. I learned a lot from the 3 hour tune while Marcelo performed his talents obviously given to him by God. First, I realized, just like you tried to tell our posters, that what Marcelo does with a gun is NOT tuning! It is giving "BIRTH". He takes a hunk of raw wood and metal and transforms it into a unique and precise instrument! Could I, tune a gun? Probably. Do I posses the hands, feelings, passion and understanding of the metals like Marcelo. No more that I could watch Picasso do a painting and then copy my own master piece.
I did not take a camera with me to be with Marcello, nor did I take a note pad. To me this would be insulting. I was just honored to listen, watch and learn. Marcelo went on to tell me that in his quest to learn he stripped many guns and rebuilt them. After watching how natural he moves with the gun and metals it is obvious. Bob, you were so right on this issue. If you want to be a great tuner then start tuning! You know Bob? I learned a lot more about human compassion than I did about air guns.
So, Please, do not apologize, Instead, I want to thank you for your post.

Good Shooting

PS Marcello, left Sunday for India on business. He will be gone for a few weeks and I am sure he is quite busy. However as Herb posted, his works are all over the internet where he has shared a wealth of information. If you really want to learn, you will find it.
