I want to take off the rws scope and c-mount that came with the gun and mount a leapers Bug buster scope. What recommendation can you give me for a good adjustable mount that will compensate for barrel droop?
Thanks

I have a 6x B.B. on my D40 with the shortened barrel . I used the BKL 253 cantilever mount . Might not help you much - it *is* working for me with no zeroing issues .

I decided on a cantilever mount because I needed to shorten up the eye relief when using the bug buster . Regular style mounts would let the scope come back far enough .The run about $35 so they are "fairly" reasonable. The standard mounting practices apply . Since I was leary about scope mount creep I also used a drop of blue loctite on each side of the rail . Hasn't budged ,probably wouldn't have even without the loctite .
Yes , I've been told the "mount is backwards" , don't think the mount knows the difference.

Hey Dave, That C-Mount kicked my but! Complicated & time consuming. As smooth as your 34 is now I think you have alot more leway w/ mounts. Just remember alot of one pc. mounts wont work w/ Bug Buster (its too small). The B.B. is a great scope that I feel will last forever on your 34. (my 460 could not break it)! Paralex is min. & it is probly the most forgiving scope I have ever used relating to a consistant "spotweld" (consistant eye placement). The price represents an unbeatable value,(my opinion). Nice balanced size for a 34 as well. W/ sun shade on front it looks toooo cool!As you can tell I like B.B. alot. If I had one nitpick I would say,,crosshairs are just a little thick for 10 meters,, but thats not what its for! Sorry no help on mounts,,Bug Buster Scope,,Go for it,you will love it! February 26 2008, 3:12 PM

I have two Leapers. I had one on my 460. not a bug buster. I like the scope. I broke the adjustment "lock" and sent it back. They sent me a brand know one right away. Great service! Since then I have purchased the new bug buster 4x32 which I will place on the 34. I want to order another one to place on the Webley C1. I am thinking about the one Rick has 6x32. Is there really that much difference?

Thanks
Dave

The 6x is the same, afaik ,

February 26 2008, 3:21 PM

only differ in power and maybe the lens coating .This one supposedly focuses to 3 yards . Haven't tried because if what I shoot at is that close , i'll just step on it and save the pellet for something further out there .

D-40

February 26 2008, 5:52 PM

Rick, please tell me about the D-40. You have a shortened barrel? Then this must be a ideal mount and scope for my Beeman C1?

Good Shooting!

The Rem Look stock has been replaced with a Panther stock and the gun has a GRT kit and Apex seal and... many other things and ...I like it! It's actually a sweetheart to shoot .

Why a BB Dave?

February 26 2008, 7:27 PM

Just curious as to why you're looking at a BB. I'm not knocking them, it's just that you are somewhat limited by the short eye relief coupled with a short tube on that scope. As Rick says, you need a cant mount to get it back far enough.

If your 34 has been tuned, you probably have lots of choices. I'm just now shooting a Bushnell Sportsman 3-9 x 32 air fifle model with AO and target turrets. It will focus to 7 yards and is nice and clear. Nice warranty too. Cost me $65 shipped from Optics Planet.

(cant spell),, It seems you are missing the complete collecters package due to the fact pic. does not include my sighned Disco hat?? Just kidden Bill! Like OLD sat. night Live,,PUMP IT UP!!! Bushnell Sportsman

February 27 2008, 3:23 AM

Bill, With 2 leapers already, I would like to try that scope. What is the best mount to go on the 34.? Especially considering the barrel droop?

thanks
Dave

Re: Bushnell Sportsman

February 27 2008, 5:46 AM

Hey Dave,

I'm using a 3-9x32 non-ao sportsman on my stock 34. Just used the 1" Bushnell 2 piece rings, no movement. I found I could zero at 20 yds without shimming, and still have about 1 revolution left in the elevation. Since shimmed with 2 pieces of 35mm neg, and gained a bunch of elevation, much closer to opti. centre.

That combo had about 1500 shots until I shimmed the mount, and another 400 since then.

Long, low, lean scope looks good on the long, lean 34.

perty!

Lots of mount options there Dave

February 27 2008, 7:21 AM

If you're using a short scope like the BB, best to use a canteliever mount to get the scope as far back as you can as you'll need it. Look at the BB tube and you'll see that you don't have much tube to work with as far as being able to slide the tube around to position the eye relief. If that's your decision, you're going to need a BKL cant. mount.

If, on the other hand, you go with a different scope, you can use almost any type of mount including strap mounts, now that you've had the gun tuned. Compensating for drop or droop, should not be a problem. A brass shim or two will generally do the job nicely. Of course, there are drop compensated mounts, but they will cost upwards of $50. A one piece Accushot would probably be fine too - just shim it for drop. This of course, would not work with the BB scope though.

I'm partial to full-tube scopes because I generally need the full adjustment they offer. The short scopes like the BB are probably good, but I don't find any use in their 3 yard focus as I don't ever realy think of shooting at that short of range. Quite the contrary, I prefer to shoot at 50 yards and longer so I look for AO and the ability to focus clearly at high magnifications between 50 and 100 yards. Most of my guns are not prone to recoil either so that isn't a huge factor in my decision. The Tomahawk is my harshest firing gun and I've had no problems with the Simmons 44 mag that rests on that one.

Bushnell

February 27 2008, 12:54 PM

Bill I am about ready to go with the Bushnell Sportsman. I have been reading a lot about that scope and he come with high awards. However it is listed for light recoil. Now since I had the 34 tuned is does not have much recoil at all. But would it be worth it to invest in a Bushnell that is listed as medium recoil?
Thanks
Dave

34 scope

February 27 2008, 2:19 PM

Ok Bill, I logged on to Optic planet and they had two offers, a Bushnell sportsman for $44.00 with free shipping or a Barska 3-12x40 AO Air Gun Rifle scope, with the same. What would you do? By the way this question is open to all!
Good Shooting!

This is the one I would recommend

February 27 2008, 4:04 PM

This is the one with target turrets and AO. They call this their air rifle scope so it should handle the recoil and if it doesn't, I would argue it wouldn't void the warranty since it's called an air rifle model. The model number on this one is 720039. Yes, I think the features are worth the extra $$. You will like the scope. Sight it in for a prescribed yardage and crank up the elevation turret to go long. One click is 1/4" at 100 yards. 4 clicks to an inch at 100, 8 at 50, and so on. Wind a problem? Click a couple index marks on windage and move POI over. Reset to your zero points when you're done.

Dave, I got both

February 27 2008, 7:53 PM

I saw the same thing you did when I looked for scopes for my 460 and a Gamo, so I got one of each. Tried both on each gun and I can't tell any difference in sighting between them with my eyes. I don't think you'll go wrong with either one.

Charlie
