I thought I would start a new thread as the other one was getting rather long. About a year or so ago I downloaded Modzilla firefox and really love it over the standard google. The "add on's" are great and the search engine if great. Iam sure many of you have it. My computer desktop is super. I have the weather, favorite blog updates (dianawerks) ets., map quest, etc. right in front of me. I made a post earlier and this is a update. I downloaded "ADBLOCK PLUS" a free add on through fire fox and have not see a add yet from this website. It is a very easy to use program and already has the popups in their file system that plague this forum. You can add more if you find one.
Anyway, just my two cents. I know as much about computers as I do air guns, so take it this advice for what it is worth.

Good Shooting!

Dave,
I use the same thing and have no pop-ups either,I also added the free version of Ad-Aware from Lavasoft what a jewel,it catches all the tracking cookies but has to be manually launched.I usally run it once a week only takes 10 min or so.
And you can go about your business while its running.

I run IE 7 with Norton AV and Webroot Spysweeper and I have never seen a pop-up here or anywhere else.

spyware

I have the upgraded version of ad-ware, I also have Norton, Trend Micro and the free spybot. They usually seem to compete with each other and one will usually find some the other did not. Actually I like the free "SPYBOT" the best. One of the features I really love in Norton is "GO Back" which has really saved me in the past.

me too!

I use the exact same programs Dave plus Norton Internet Security (No Trend Micro, mine conflicted with Norton for some reason). Have been for years. I do need to try another browser other than IE though. IE is not that good and full of security vulnerabilities.
thanks for the info.

Spyware

Have, I usually buy the Norton works packages each year. Like I said, the "Goback" feature is worth it alone. It also has utilities and password mangager built in. Question, which one of the spy ware programs do you think works the best? For me, it seems like the two free ones do the best job.

Free vs Norton

March 1 2008, 7:22 AM

Dave, According to a friend of mine who builds custom computers for a living any time you buy a spyware, adware,or a virus control program such as Norton and the other big names they always leave a small back door open in order to sell you next years up dated version.

This is exactly what they want you to do! Below

Continuation of my story
The free versions work the best because they want to impress the user into buying there product, once you buy it you get the same thing as all the rest,,,a small entrance is open to allow just enough in to get you to either up grade or buy the new version.
Think about it,this makes sense! This was explained to me 3 years ago and once I started using the free versions exclusively and got rid of Norton and all other purchased software products that were suppose to protect my computer I have had no problems other than tracking cookies that the Lavasoft free AD-Aware catches.

The full page fade-in ads are GONE!

I removed network54 from my restricted sites and still don't see them, now for two days. It's back like it was two weeks ago.

Sure hope it stays that way!

D.
