To tell the truth, I have NEVER seen so much math thrown around as I have on these airgun forums. I guess knowing that forumula for average AO is useful to some. But it seems we have forgotten some basic field shooting principles. When you sight in your gun for hunting, be it air or powder burner, you zero it for a certain range. Trajectory being what it is, an arc, you will find that a dead-on hold will be over or under by a certain amount, depending upon the gun. If, for an air rifle, this is unknown, it's no great labor to shoot a bit to determine how much hold over/under is required.
One thing about the AO formula is that it takes for granted shooters can accurately estimate ranges. Unless you practice, it's hard to guesstimate yardage. Many two hundred yard shots are closer to one hundred.
Now, what we really need is for these scientific types to invent a parallax adjustable peep sight. That should keep them occupied for some time.
