Don't want to adjust your AO? Here's how to set it and forget for
minimum parallax error! - Chris_Colorado Feb. 29, 2008 12:52 AM

Long but definitely worth reading/studying!

Too much for me!

To tell the truth, I have NEVER seen so much math thrown around as I have on these airgun forums. I guess knowing that forumula for average AO is useful to some. But it seems we have forgotten some basic field shooting principles. When you sight in your gun for hunting, be it air or powder burner, you zero it for a certain range. Trajectory being what it is, an arc, you will find that a dead-on hold will be over or under by a certain amount, depending upon the gun. If, for an air rifle, this is unknown, it's no great labor to shoot a bit to determine how much hold over/under is required.

One thing about the AO formula is that it takes for granted shooters can accurately estimate ranges. Unless you practice, it's hard to guesstimate yardage. Many two hundred yard shots are closer to one hundred.

Now, what we really need is for these scientific types to invent a parallax adjustable peep sight. That should keep them occupied for some time.

Too much for me too!

Hey Red Feather, Good point. Too much math stresses this old redneck brain of mine. I agree w/ you,"basic field shooting principles,ie. hold over, hold under" seem to get lost in this day & age. The "old" way has put alot of meat on the tables for a long time, has it not? I posted my own ? about A.O to Mr. Gaylord a while back,Alot of good info came in. Even B.B. conceeded he learned from posts. I came to the conclusion that I did not want to be "fiddlen" around w/ my scope every time a tree rat invaded my garden at various ranges. Nope, I went back to the ole "set it & forget it",, I know hold over/under. I plink & hunt for fun & dont want to tote a range finder all the time. Before others get mad at me,, tech. aspects of total accuracy are great,(I still tinker at it),Im just comfortable w/ good old "basic field shooting priciples". Also R.F.,, The Cros. (possum) car pool pic. was just too dam funny!! I gladly accept my # 2 spot as comiedian here! Great to have you here,Tim. P.S. Herb, I did not look at post at Yellow,my head just stopped swirrlin from my post about A.O. mentioned above! (T.Gaylord).I hope this post does not offend you in anyway, you know way more about airguns than me & I respect you.Tim.
