you know very well that I have to still bag a Crow, now don't let the other forum members know about this; PLEASE

crows are not squirrels or rabbits they are devious and very intelligent, my next gun will be a howitzer .88 cal since I cannot get them even with my 48 in .22

not that I have to go far to see the Crows' @ 5:00 PM there are hundreds next to the pond maybe 100 yards away, some come closer and have aimed, squezzed the trigger with 000000 results, they give me no RESPECT at all

warren

PS: yes, I know someone will say I have shoot 100,s of them

Its a good thing you dont live in calif. its against the law to shoot crows here. When I was a kid they use to pay us 5 cents a head to shoot them now its lets have your gun son. Marvin

Not

these are very intelligent birds, I did get a pellet on the side of one it was like lead hitting "KEVLAR" only a front shoot will get one and they do not come closer than 20 yrds.

stalk a Crow is not easy they roam in bands and communicate with one another they are not lonely creatures and hard to hunt

warren

and remember "it's 30% the gun and 70% the shooter"

Warren

you get no respect, no respect all all, I tell ya..

Warren, just get a percussion grenade and throw it hard. You 'll get a couple of them that way or at least stun a few so you can closer to shoot them.

Well all I have to say is that if the crows you are shooting at are 60,70 or 80yds away, chances are you will not hit them unless you have practiced at those ranges and know exactly what the hold over is. Even if you practice at 50yds, it's easy to miss at 70 because the pellet will drop another several inches. The problem here is that may have gotten a couple of them but if they are that far away as you say they are, the pellet probably does not have enough energy to kill them, unless you get them with a head shot. Their feathers are really thick and form a shield around their body. There 's been various talk about crows and it seems you need at least (minimum) 6fpe on impact to kill one and 8+FPE on pellet impact to have an exit wound and take them humanely.

The small game hunting season is over for me. I don't know about Florida laws, but I cannot shoot crows legally in NY anymore until Oct. 1 (or Sept. don't know the new '08-09 season yet) so that's a bummer. They 've been circling my house since March 1, and coming closer like they know the season is over and are teasing me. This morning I opened the window and they didn't fly off right away from the back trees! They waited, checked me out, probably looking for a gun which was absent, and then flew away one at a time in their leisure every 1-2secs apart. That would have been plenty of time for me to bag one! Now every time in the past I opened the same window, they were gone in less than 2 secs. This time it took them 10secs maybe more to leave which would have given me plenty of time. See? they even know the hunting schedule! They are just coming back to torment me now. It's their payback to me for getting a few of their comrades. The worse is they still wake me up at 6am which I hate. They deprive me of an exta 45min to 1hr sleep. Well soon in another month or two I think they 'll be migrating and I 'll have peace again until November when they return.

Oh the funny thing is I go to the Supermarket yesterday to get a few things for my wife. A dang crow walks 15-20ft from me in the parking lot, stops and hangs out.. That's ok, I 'll be waiting for them next Fall. Then it's my turn for some payback!

Crows, The worthy advisary!

March 3 2008, 4:36 PM

Harry/ Warren, You guys are crackin me up!! Crows are truly a real challenge for airgun hunters! They kick my butt! Im sorry, but I enjoyed the "Russian" city hunt for crows,,I felt kinda like, take that you little jerks!! I understand Red Feather being offended by that vidio. If R.F. sees my post at Kliffs site,(hunting,,frozen bunny), he will see I dont really condone that type of behavior,& I am honering that "bunny" by having him mounted. Also ,I dont think Ill shoot any more of them. Deer, game birds, squirrels, crows,,you betcha!! Good shootin guys! Tim.

Hey Tim

March 4 2008, 12:05 PM

I have never mounted any small game. That's interesting, good for you!

BTW, I usually hang out at the GTA hunting forum. The guys there have good stories and post pics. That's where I usually go to discuss most anything hunting related, post pics, etc. There 's a great bunch of guys on that forum too but be careful. They are all about hunting within the legal hunting season, hunting licenses and all that, so don't imply you will shoot a deer in your backyard any time of the year. They'll be all over you
