This is for down the road, but I think I will ask now. I will probably be tearing down my old 1950's Model 50 to see if I can't tame the twang down a bit. Should I find that the spring is broken, how might I go about selecting a suitable replacement? It's in .22.
I just ordered a Beeman Peep for my 350 mag per your suggestion.
1)First Centerpoint was returned: Metal sliver in battery compartment shorted
the circuitry for the red/green.
2)Second Centerpoint: The battery cover pinged off into grass after about 10
shots (uh oh).
3)Second Centerpoint: Elevation Knob stopped moving the reticle.
Centerpoint= zero Peep sights=Prayer
The standard open sights are not satisfactory for my vision. According to You/Tom, the Beeman might be the answer.
I’d like to change the front sight insert as well (the church steeple), I thought I had found a source for Diana F/S inserts, but when I called the number on the Int. page, the company said Diana had discontinued exporting them to the States. Not enough in$entive I suppose.
From what I’ve been told, the Beeman Front Sight Inserts won’t work on Dianas.
I may try epoxy-ing something to the steeple to square it off.
You could see if Umarex inherited something that will work. Or Pyramid Air. They took in a nuch of parts for RWS. Ask for a technician and have him check. There's always a post on the Yellow Forum. Couple of guys there do custom brake work (Rich from Mich comes to mind) and may be able to fabricate one for you that takes a standard globe like a Lyman.
Good luck!
ps - I've got a CenrePoint 3X9X50 that I have yet to use. Think it will go on a non-recoiling gun. They are pretty nice scopes (same as Leapers) but those 350's are beasts, if you know what I mean.
Ctruth I know that the rws p5 and p6 pistols used inserts in the front sights on some modles as well. As Red Feather metioned you might give Umarex a call Glenn has check on part swaps for me be for . Marvin
By the time I got the second Centerpoint scope, my “beast” had been tamed to relative smoothness (compared to out of the box).
The Centerpoint I had was an 3-9x40 Adventure Class model:CP394AORG.
Interestingly, when I called Centerpont regarding replacement of the battery cover (which shot off into tall grass and was then further secreted away by fiendish insects, and also prior to the elevation knob failure), I was told that although several CP scopes had been “shock tested” for airgun use, my model was NOT one of them. Needless to say, this was refreshing news to me. I thought maybe I should pass this tid-bit on to PA, since they reccommended this scope on my 350.
The e-mail excerpt below was from Glen Seiter at Umarex.

You are welcome to order fiber optic sights to fit the 350 Magnum. The front sight (305932) is $21.06 and the replacement fiber optic insert piece (305597) is $9.30 + the S&H would be $9.95. We accept Visa or MC w/exp date.
Thanks,
Glenn

I am waiting for a response re: inserts for standard front sights on the 350, and also regarding where the heck I can at least get a “glimpse” of this fiber sight before shelling out $30.00.

Dunno about the sight on your gun but I suspect it's the same standard Diana front sight that does NOT accept inserts. If so then your plan to glue a bead atop the 'church steeple' might bear good dividends. I too considered that approach when confronted with the same vision problems associated with the church steeple on my new M-34, but I found an unknown front sight that will accept inserts in my sight stash that I was able to adapt by dint of filing and profanity. That same *&^%$#@ front sight has 'graced' every Diana that I've ever owned. Just why they have chosen to continue to utilize such an unsatisfactory part is beyond my power of rationalization, but it is time-honored even if honored in no other quarters. Tom @ Buzzard Bluff
If your gun is that old, and if the leather piston seal isn't dry, your gun probably needs a new spring if it is only shooting (IIRC) 450 fps. It it isn't broken, it is probably collapsed.
To get a proper spring, you need coil count, wire diameter, and guide diameter. Then go to JM's site, and get one with similar specs that will fit snugly on the guide. If there is nothing that will fit on the stock guide, get one .025"-.030" oversize, and shrink and glue electrical shrink tube on the guide to make it fit tight.
