My Diana 10 childs side lever rifle arrived today in lovely shape. Ill post more about it later.
It was made 1950-52 and has a wood stock, you unthread the barrel liner to load BBs or darts and reinstall barrel.
BBs are loaded in the barrel as a muzzle loader. It is marked Diana 10 on receiver has fixed sights. I believe when you remove barrel liner, you could shoot corks out of it. about 29 inches long, very cute collectible.
It has what may be a serial number 550 stamped on end of buttstock. its a bit dirty hard to read. Ill go over it carefully when I get home.
Very nice collectible Diana.

Nice collectible! I 'm trying to picture unscrewing the "barrel liner". What exactly is a barrel liner? You take out the entire barrel? Do you load several or 1 BB at a time from the muzzle end of the barrel?

Sounds very interesting.

Harry the part you unthreas is a knurled screw about half inch long and then inner magazine or barrel comes out. I tried and I think its a single shot. I put in 3 BBs and all shot at once.a friend is posting pix but send me an email and Ill send you pix of it and the shot tube.
how do you like the hammerli 850 what sort of speed do you get. I have a benjyu discovery on order in .22 otherwise I would order a hammerli 850-the disco should arrive monday.

850 .22

is an excellent gun by CO2 standards and very accurate! It has no recoil which is kind of weird to me being used to the 350 .22. It shoots various 14.x pellets at 603 to 608fps at room temperature so it's at least an 11.5fpe gun out of the factory. With 14.6gr Beeman FTS it's a 12fpe gun. I will be doing the hammer spring modification soon (heavy duty spring to open the valve more) which will make it gain another ~55fps for about 14FPE.

The problem with owning a CO2 gun up here in NY is that when you use it outdoors for hunting in the Fall/Winter, you lose much of the velocity due to the low temps. So I will not be taking this gun out on the field much at all. So far it has proven to be a good hunting gun shooting squirrels from the window of a warm room at 20-25yds. Head/neck shots are easy with a 3-9x32 scope because the gun is very easy to shoot accurately. I would not however recommend attempting quartering or vitals shots with this gun unless you have done the simple hammer spring mod to bring it up to 14fpe and even then I 'd limit varmint hunting of this gun to 30yds. That's just me, because I have noticed the POI drops a lot after 25yds with this gun. I am used to the 350 shooting pretty flat to 35-40yds. Plus I don't want to drop below 8fpe at the time of impact when hunting fur bearing animals. I 'm looking forward to hunting Starlings 35-40yds out though. However they seem to be hanging out at the neighbor's property a lot and not mine. The last time I got a Starling was Sept/October time frame so I doubt they still hold grudges about that 5mos later? I may have to bait them with some seeds because I think the 850 would be perfect for them to 40yds if I can practice a little more and figure out the holdover.

Good luck with your new Discovery! and happy pumping

on my name on the left anytime to e-mail.

Yes the Discovery seems to be very flexible. Just be aware that the velocity will drop 50-75fps with CO2.

Tim @ Mac1 airguns is selling the Disco prep. by him for $250.00 w/o pump, $400.00 with the pump, adding spring guide, recrown the barrel, trigger mod and other things

he has it powered for 875-910 FPS, now that are minor mods for this gun, you could do a whole lot more and get more FPS but 900 is a good # and very nice for a .22 cal

what's your take on this?

warren

and remember "it's 30% the gun and 70% the shooter"

Harry in NY too?

March 9 2008, 5:58 PM

Harry,

I am down to one gas gun (CR600 pistol) because of the cold. Even a warm room is no soluton. I shot 40 rounds through the chrony with the CR600 and watched the numbers go down on EACH and EVERY SHOT. The gun has a Dave Gunter overhaul on it, so I know it is functioning as it should. Gas is just not as reliable as spring-piston...oh no it's not.

Did you get the ice storm?
