My RWS 34, .177 cal, has recently had a 70 ft/sec drop in velocity using RWS Superdome pellets (the only kind I have consistently used). Pellet speeds are still consistent but slightly less so (+- 20 ft/sec vs originally +- 6 ft/sec). The gun is still shooting accurately though again slightly less so (groups increased by .5 inches at 20 yds). I have shot about 5k pellets through the gun. I don't know if this happened suddenly or not, I just started noting one day the POI was .5 inches lower as compared to the previous day at 20 yds. I thought initially that the sight may have moved.

I hate to send the gun out for repair if there is something I can do to get it back to the original performance. I have lubed the spring and chamber as recommended in the manual. Is this simply wear on the spring?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Velocity loss

Hey Tony, Sounds to me like you are a member of the "Evil Chrony Club" !! LOL.! (welcome!!) My newbie guess would be:(since you indicated you lubed yourself) maybee a broken mainspring (maybee 2 or 3 rear coils towards the rear, on the spring guide.) I have seen this before. This would explain your otherwise still consistant # & accuracy. Have you checked breach seal ?? I only posted my newbie 2-cents here just cause your #,s changed,You saw this,,SOMETHING is wrong w/ your gun! An overnight drop of 70 fps is a clear indication! Been there, done that! Oh, the "Evil Chrony"!! I rest my case. Tim.
