Hello everyone!

After a hiatus of about 2 years I am back in spring guns!

Just got a "new" D-54 in 0.22"

I hesitated a bit because it was a "demo" gun; I knew, from what the local Monterrey Distributor told me, that someone had put its hands into the gun, I just didn't know how heavy those hands had been.

Well, got the gun on Thursday past and was too busy to get into it until Saturday.

The first thing that was immediately apparent was that the "someone" had taken one of the metal washers that make the floating mechanism float. This was apparent from the extreme looseness of the stock screws. Under these conditions the gun was unable to be accurate.

The other was that it was not going to be a direct procedure to mount the Leapers Bug Buster scope in the gun, as the peculiar combination of eye relief, plus saddle size, plus extreme shortness of the scope made it impossible to use the scope stop depressions that come from the factory.
So I re-drilled the rear scope stop hole using a 5/32" drill very careful not to make the hole oval nor out of vertical. This resulted in the rear position of the stop-enabled base to where you see it in this photo:

The rear base is a little out of the rail, but the hole is where it should and the base is solid.
Current Leapers bases are very solid, as they use 4 large screws for affixing the base to the rail and 4 medium screws for the rings.

Once that was done, and the rear washer had been replaced using a tempered washer purchased from the brand new Puerto Vallarta Home Depot, the gun's behaviour went to absolutely normal on the floating mechanism. I still need to buy a Metric 6X1 oppressor, but that can wait.

A very interesting thing about this gun is the stock: it is absolutely beautiful. FIne grained and figured for a Beech stock it is outstanding. Reddish tones and darker veins make for a very appealing stock:

All in all, a very attractive gun:

But the MOST interesting part of all this adventure came on Sunday, when I tested the gun with different pellets.

I need to go, so that will be another story!

Keep well!

Un Abrazo!

Héctor
