Hello everyone!
Told you I would be back with the rest of the story, so here it goes:
Sunday came and I went testing the new gun, I had on hand an assortment of pellets from several locally available brands: Crosman, GAMO & JSB. From Crosman, the Premiers and the Copperhead Pointed; the Premiers because they have such a good reputation, the Copperhead Pointed because they are slightly longer than the Premiers and they are much less expensive. The GAMO brand provided the ProMagnum, the Match Competition and the Rocket; the ProMagnum because they are similar in weight to the JSB, are pointed and have a good BC, the Match Competition because a flat nosed pellet is usually very effective at short ranges; and the Rocket because a penetrator pellet is useful against hard targets, like Badgers, O´Possums, Armadillos and others. JSB provided the Exact Express and the Exact Jumbo; the Express because it weighs the same as the Premier.
On top of all these pellets, I had some of them lubed with Pledge and some others not lubed. It was an extensive and interesting test session.
Without a doubt, the best pellet in the gun was the JSB lubed. 5 shots went into a 1/4" from 20 meters from the sitting FT position:
Next came the Copperhead Pointed, also lubed with Pledge, 5 shots going into a little more than 3/8":
I went through most of the other pellets without any success until I reached the Rocket, an interesting pellet with a steel ball for a head, but that performed rather well, considering that it was the transition from lubed to non-lubed pellets, the first shor went low, and then the next two shots went into the same hole, then the 4th, 5th & 6th went all into the same hole, so it seems they want to shoot well, but the lack of lubrication provided no incentive for them to do so, still the target is telling:
After the rockets I still tried some other pellets, but none were satisfactory enough to write about, so I will not bore you with details. Having gone through more than 10 targets, I decided to stick to JSB's Exact Jumbos but move to the 30 meter mark and shoot a 10 shot group, this was the result:
As you can see, all the pellets went into less than 1 1/4" X 7/8" and that without 4 shots, the remaining 6 of them would have gone into less than 1/2". Mind you this is not benched nor rested. Simple seated FT position.
On analyzing the targets, you can see that the gun shoots to almost the same point of aim different pellets, which means that the barrel is not too picky.
It also proves, once again, that lubed pellets can and do make a difference when shooting higher powered rifles.
I feel fortunate in getting such a good gun that is also lovely to look at. Not often do you find females, whether they are guns or women that pair good looks with good performance. This is one such individual. I do not have a Chrono now, hope to be able to afford one soon. I'll post MV's when I get them.
I hope to be able to do some more outings with the gun and the three favourite pellets and see exactly what she can do. The whole rig feels "hooked-up" and I know I will enjoy her very much.
Keep well!
Un Abrazo!
Héctor
