Yes yes, I do still need to fire it quit a bit to break her in still. Very accurate but not nearly as smooth as my old lemon 460. This thing sounds like a real mag springer. Will post further results after firing more. On to the scope mounting.
Man that is great news Martin!! Im very happy for you,you have been thru he$$ & deserve it! Keep us up to date. Seems this forum carries some weight!Tim.
Martin, sorry if I missed something, but did I miss something? Did Umarex finally give you a new gun? If so, I want to send Glen a e-mail to thank him.
Umarex in no way helped me out. I purchased my new 460 on my own. The new 460 is a bit lighter in color (stock), the elevation adjustment is all the way down and just on target at 15 meters. My lemon still had adjustment left. Another thing is that the new one is not nearly as smooth cocking as is the lemon. But I know that will change with break in.
Here is the big discovery with the new one. The pellets (CPs) do not fit as snug as my lemon. Crow Magnums are snugger but not nearly as snug as my old lemon. I never realized that now, when comparing the two, the fit of pellets is fairly tight with the lemon (especially CMs, Predators, and Kodiaks).
Question: Is there any way that the barrel diam was slightly out of spec? I mean, I am no genious but there is a definate difference in how the pellets are fitting.
Thanks Again
P.S. Please don't bother asking about obtaining the new 460 and the old one. I will post that at a later date.
Oh, and sorry guys, but nothing from Umarex. Same old sheet.
I made a comment to the guy that did the video on PA with the 460. about how pellets should be loaded in the 460. with the barrel down as they do not fit very snugly, as they may fall out and you risk dry firing the gun. He responded that what I said was bunk. I responded back that I have heard it from many people that own the 460. Now you! My 460 has always shot high chrony numbers. I think there may be some truth to the barrel diameters. MO
Martin, so glad to hear you got a real 460 this time, your travails make mine seem petty by comparison.
Don't give up on the deal, though...after you have shot off all your well deserved anger, maybe you would write a long, detailed, snail mail letter to the president of Diana, Mayer, & Grammelspacher in Germany. If you can get a hold of a really savvy German speaker maybe he or she would translate it, but if not, there should be a good English speaker on staff. You, and we, deserve a lot better treatment from such a celebrated company. On the other hand, maybe they really just don't give a sh*t anymore about the US market, but at least you will have the satisfaction of telling your sad story to the original manufacturer.
that if you see a 460 4sale on the airgun classifieds, stay away from it!!
Glad to see Martin you bought a 460 that was built by someone at the Diana factory that didn't have a few 1L beers (beer in Germany usually only comes in Liter mugs) for lunch!
I would send an e-mail to Umarex and another to Diana if I were you and give them the S/N with the mo/yr. Diana can trace the S/N back to the person or gunsmith that put the gun together. I bet there is 1 bad worker out there producing many crappy guns.
Happy shooting!

Alright Martin!!!!!!!!!! Good to hear that the worm has turned for you my man!! You deserve it!
I am sure that your new gun will break in just fine....after a bit, and if you are feeling a bit frisky, grab some Maccari lubes and do a lube and debur (remember to be sure to get the clear tar from JM IF you deside to do that....a must for under levers and side levers...molly and heavy or velocity tar too and all seals - always replace seals when ya take a gun apart that far).
As for the barrel specs.... in that other post that I did that had the pics of the hone and mirror polish in the compression tube on that 350 Mag, I mentioned that BEFORE I got to that step, I did a crown clean up and a hand lap of the barrel (I always do one on my guns when I first get them and then a crown clean up....just once in a barrel's life is enough really...don't want to go too nuts on airgun rifling). You WOULD be surprised at the inconsistency that I have seen in some barrels, not a lot, but enough to be surprising...first a tight spot then loose for a bit then tight again and then loose, etc....
Regardless, I am just happy as heck for ya....enjoy it and keep the post coming!!!
Hey Martin,Tim here, I may be a bumbling redneck from Fla,/S.C. But,I know a "rattlesnake" when I see it! I know whats going on here,& if I can help you,let me know. timmyj1959@yahoo.com Sooo glad to hear your new 460 was a performer! Case closed!! Tim.
my 460 will swallow any pellet and on some differnt (brands) they have to be loaded with the barrel facing DOWN, if not they will just drop out the breech
now, my 48 is completely different, you have to actually push the CP's into the breech (forcefully)
SOO the 460 has a bigger diameter at the breech, yes, maybe? and does this make a difference?
absolutely!!!
heavy pellets seem to work best with my 460
some other members have voiced their observation's that their 460's have a breech where the pellet fit's snugly and that is a key into understanding this particular gun

airgun adds. If it was, I would definately give an honest description of it. I am not what we call in the Army a "Blue Falcon".
If ya want a PM, I will send ya one.

cut, can you expect lower than specced MV's in an airgun.
And usually when this happens, then the pellet will either not enter at all, or be very hard to put in.
In my experience, either uncut chambers, or "free-bored" cahmbers, both produce lower than specced MV's, but a tight chamber would have to be too tight, almost non-existent to produce such results.
Warren, I am in total agreement with you about loading the pellets with the barrel down. However, my gun shoots light pellets really fast and the heavier pellets slower. I am confused. Did you sell your 460? And if so why?
it is a proven fact that if the breech is undersized you have to push the pellet in, over and you just drop it in
my 48 is under and my 460 is A+ OK, why do I know this?
use the same pellet in both guns and see how they load. my 460 will accomodate the CP very easy and is easier if loaded facing DOWN, just a drop in the bucket, just try loading it UP and you have to be a contortionist artist.
the 48 is way different, you have to wiggle and push the DAMM CP in
two different breeches, two different guns, same pellet (CP's)

PS: Martin, my 459 + 1 = 460 shoots 840 fps with cp,s
