Russ I know you own a p5g mag but I do not know if you own any break barrel rws rifles . Im thinking of a long barrel for my want to be carbine 5 mag.I dont know if the swivel block is the same with a pistol and the break barrel rifle . If you know or could measue I would like to know. My other option is as I see it is to drill out my barrel and press in a new one. Im trying to get info to see what the most reasonable way would be in effort and cost.Tim is going to make a shoulder stock for me and I think I might want to take it a step further .Cant let my 1377 long barrel crosman out do the rws. And it might make a nice hand me down piece some day. I do need to keep the cost down the old limited funds thing . I am open to all ideas other than dont do it. Marvin

A longer barrel on the P5M may not do what....

March 14 2008, 2:51 PM

you think/want it to do. I recall a P5M .177 I owned shooting
some pellets faster (MV) than a 24c .177 I owned. Both new
and purchased at the same time. Some pellets the 24c would
shoot a bit faster (MV) than the P5M.

I think a 'healthy' - properly cleaned, sealed, lubed and
with a slightly stronger main spring and/or slightly heavier
weighted piston could possibly achieve MVs of lower or so
600s using .177 RWS Hobbies.

The two I owned - both .177 and untuned/tweaked would shoot
.177 RWS Hobbies at 575-580ish fps MV. No smoke, no smell.

Herb

Longer barrel?

March 14 2008, 5:57 PM

Hey Marvin,Tim here, I agree w/Herb. I dont think your P-5 needs nor wants a longer brl. I thought the idea of my "carbine" stock for your gun was to end up w/ a super sweet little "mini" rifle? Correct me if Im wrong,I thought you said you dont hunt but only plink & punch paper? (dont need much power for that). I was going to make your P-5 stock w/a really short L.O.P. If you have asperations of adding a longer brl. to your P-5 pistol, then the stock I wouldbuild would be entirely differant,& pointless, you would be better off just buying a 34. Call me tommorow,(just E-Mailed my ph. # to you) we will work this out. Hope all went well on the 177 "hop up"! Post your results at Kliffs site. What did you think of me & Kimmie Sues pic. post on the 2250 "STEALTH"??LOL.! We did that just to "stir" you up! Been seeing your posts here & there!LOL. Tim.

not on track

Please both of you are jumping to a conclusion that Im thinking of useing the hole rifle barrel. My thought was if it could simply replace the pistol barrel then I would cut it to my desired lenght and simply recrown it. Please note that I said I wanted to posible make a carbine not a rifle out of it. If the cost factor is to high then I will stay with the 9 inch barrel that it already has . But with a little help I dont think cuting off the barrel and drilling the block out and pressing in a new barrel would be that costly . Even if I had to use a used barrel or buy a cheap crosman storm barrel and cut it down to around 18 inches . And please remember I said I was open to anything other than dont do it .Even though after I count the cost of the battle I may choose not to and leave it at the 9. Thanks Marvin

Mello, I'll get some measurements for you...

but I think that you might be better off extending the barrel by making a longer brake or perhaps a shroud. The powerplant of this pistol is rather small so I would be concerned about losing velocity with extension of the barrel. A shroud or brake would be an easy way around this.

Just my .02 cents. I do like the idea you have and look forward to seeing the results which ever way you decide to go about it.

Thank you Russ for takeing the time to take a look at the pistol.I do understand the power plant size is a concern and I thank you for the way you dealt with this post . Marvin

Measurements

March 15 2008, 2:11 PM

Measurements for the breach block in inches...

overall length - 2.475
width - .531
pivot to rear face - .972
pivot to top surface - .520
breach to top surface - .286

This should give you an idea of what is needed for this to work.
Glad I could help out. Good luck with it.

Russ S.
