in the last couple of weeks. It is a pain I admit.
I don't get any pop-up's when I put the URL in my untrusted list on my browser's Securiy & Privacy settings but then I have to log in every day and I can't click on any links that are in a post. I got used to it now and I just copy/paste them to a new browser window..

I understand the age we live in but do you want your young kids looking at some of these adds on the internet. The owner or moderator should have some control over this . I do not see it on any of the other sites that I veiw. Marvin
Between My Account and Login there's something called Remove Ads. Click on that and you get a screen for signing up as a premium customer. Then all ads will be blocked. Of course, it's followed by the credit card info so they can charge you for this "oremium" service.
I know the forum's not really free, but the owners have really opened the floodgates on these popups. And, if I set my browser to max tightness, then my kids have trouble viewing their sites. Who wants to individually examine every popup?
Cruise a porn site, intentionally or buy accident, and you may get some hits here. I've posted about, say, springs and seen little popups for "spring" related items. And most are local ads, too. The Hillary popup I've gotten today is a little more than I need to look at.
Red Feather I do not look at porn at all and what you said would lead others to believe I do . I resent you remark and it was out of line for you to speak that way on this form . Marvin
Just you said that there are popups kids shouldn't be exposed to. That would be one of them. Unless you meant the Hillary poll.
As to porn, when we first got internet access at work some years ago I did a search for Nymex (New York Mercantile Exchange) daily prices. Third hit I had was for "lonely college girls in California". How they got nympho from Nymex is beyond me. And did I ask to go there? Just that it can happen, accidentally.
Anyway, there sure do seem to be more and more of these. Not just opening in new windows but imbedded in my posts.
I don't see any. Either your browser is screwed up, you have spyware, or your firewall is not working, or any combination thereof. A simple freeware like Panicware Popupstopper will block pretty much everything. On NW54 popups go to paying the rent so to speak, so its not something the owner has a lot of control over.
What are Ads by Google?
Ads by Google are contextually relevant advertisements that appear beside related content on the page. The web publishers who display Ads by Google are part of the Google AdSense program, and the ads come from Google's base of AdWords advertisers.
Damn things are like ants at a picnic. Plus I had a nice jpeg on top of my page just now of a bunch of near-nudes. Such lovely stuff, like things boiling up from the bottom of a witches cauldron. And I set my browser to highest setting but it still won't stop them. I don't really want to ad anti-popup software if I don't have to. NONE of the other forums I use are like this, and two are N54 based.
and is working on the pop-ups now. They are also in the process of writing new software which takes away time that could be dedicated to correcting this issue. I agree that the number of pop-ups is getting a bit crazy but using Firefox with Adblock handles that problem. I have always used Firefox so it was no biggie for me. For those who don't, I can understand the frustration.
In the meantime I hope everyone hangs in there. If it gets too bad and no solution is in sight then perhaps we can start a thread proposing some solutions.

it goes with being a moderator.
Actually Dave and I have discussed adding this feature for regular members and I have been doing some research on the best way to go about doing so. No time frame on implementation yet.
The ad's are NOT under my control period! I make no money, have absolutelly no control of their topic or content. I simply own and run a FREE Forum for you Airgunners and for Airgunning's sake! I LOVE airguns and have partial to Diana's for decades. The Forum is open to all brands and discussion of all related airgunning topics. I don't care what turns your head, gets a rise out of any individual, or what brand of Cigaretts they smoke! I'm an Airgunner!
For the final time, this is a FREE Forum, I use it for FREE, it gets paid for by the advertising space that NW-54 sells. Spyware is pretty good these days and If you or anyone typed a related or possibly connected word, then the spyware trolls looking for you. Please watch the words you use!
Furthermore in this day and age one must become thicker skinned and not be so easilly upset when somebody tries to explain somthing to ya... I seriously doubt anyone was personally attacking anyone's character, OK? Several attempts were made to explain the problem with Pop-up Ad's and how they target you, that's all!
I put this Forum up a long time ago, with good intentions and cannot pay to upgrade to the top line features some folks apparentlly seem to need. The Forum is for FUN and those of you wishing to view and use it as such, please DO enjoy yourselves! Look past the "little things" and read about the Forum topic, Airgunning! The other stuff is beyond my control.
I grow very weary of trying to apologize and/or explain the basic why's of how NW-54 runs things every couple of weeks! It's simply 2008 Internet Business pratice. I know it's a pain, but from the handles I commonly see, many of you are not new at this net thing and we all just have to deal with it OK?
This being said I really have only 3 choices to deal with the "Pop-Up" issue.
#1 (which I can't do) is pay the additional money and buy protection for others that they should already have on their computers.
#2 re-write this explanation every 2 wks. (Sorry this one's no longer an option!)
#3 Just shut the forum down and put an end to this frustration and the "Bother" that inflicts upon a very few of it's patrons. (I'd much prefer to keep this place going as-is, and try to enjoy the place for the basic purpose that it exhists at all! In fact this is what's going to happen for the time being.)
I'm sorry NW-54 has these annoyances but I think most every one out there is adult enough to understand how things are these days and tough enough to ignore the minor irritations for the sake of keeping the "Big Picture" in sight and simply enjoy the fact that this Forum exhists for airgunners and airgunning's sake and it's enjoyment.
Come on guys, I done a lot to have kept this this place going, how bout letting the little stuff like those Ad's roll off your backs?
there are no bells and whistles in this forum compared to others that have "sponsors". that means this site is free with no $$$ from air gun companies to supplement or upgrade the forum
I appreciate this forum and you ZVP for creating it, the "pop up's" don't bother me at all
warren
and remember "it's 30% the gun and 70% the shooter"
Since some can't seem to be bothered to review previous posts concerning their gripes how 'bout giving your last post a #----like 11147, to reflect the times you've tried to explain it? In future just post "Refer to post # 11147" in reply to the complainers.
I, for one, am just happy that you still have the patience to continue to tolerate the gripers and maintain the forum. It is still one of the gold-standard airgun boards on the net for which I am thankful. Tom @ Buzzard Bluff
I know most of you understand the problem and when in a hurry looking at posts, get frustrated (like me too) but let the situation just let it blow by.
I also appreciate that NW-54 at least offers a free Forum and when you areen't very computer savvy (as I am surely not!), that you can still set up a Forum and get all this information down.
I honestly do appreciate everyones tolerances!
