I keep my 'airsenal' small in number...

and try to keep the size of the guns small too. I prefer/like
pistols, mini-carbines and carbines. I also stay smallbore -
my favorite AG caliber being .22. Another thing I decided on
a few years ago is to focus more and more on springers and
now that's all I own. My favorite type of springer is the
break-barrel cocker. Also I've been focussing more and more
on the cheaper, non-classy, non-snooty, not costing an arm
and a leg airguns.

I live in the country so I can grab a firearm and shoot it any
time day or night any day of the week. Figure I'll pass on owning
bigbore airguns and semi-auto fancy ass PCPs and such.

In airguns I much prefer built-in power plants and a single cocking
stroke to achieve full power.

I've owned a Theoben SLR 98, Air Arms TX200 HC, Webley Patriot,RX1/HW90,
Webley Tomahawk, Webley Longbow, Webley Xocet (3), Marksman 70 series,
Diana 350M, Diana 460M, Diana 24 (2), Diana P5M (2), P1/HW45 (4),
P3/HW40 (2), IZH MP513M, IZH 512, IZH 514K, Crosman 180 (2), Crosman
140/1400 (2), Crosman 1077, Benjamin/Sheridan 'steroids' (3), Benjamin
HB (3), Sheridan E,Crosman "Ted Williams" 150 (3), Crosman 2100 (2),
Crosman 99, a bunch of Daisy and Crosman gassers and pumpers including
some 22xx Crosman PCP conversion guns. Probably forgot a few. What I'm
getting at is that I am where I'm at now in my airgun hobby after going
through all those airguns - a few of them I still own.

If a fella is a collector fine - I'm not.

I own a few airguns and they all get shot regularly. Usually if I buy
a new one I sell one. I do that because I prefer/want to keep my 'airsenal'
small. If I had to take my present 'airsenal' down to one gun that gun
would be my Webley Xocet .22 carbine. Presently the most expensive gun in
my small 'airsenal' is the Diana 460M .22. Definitely a decent AG and I
like it but my favorite AGs are break-barrels, carbines/mini-carbines/pistols.

I'm down to just springers and know this is where I'll stay. The only airgun
that I've been thinking about adding to my small 'airsenal' is a Diana LP8
pistol preferably in .22. The only AGs that could enter my small 'airsenal'
other than springers would be potent SSP pistol and carbine.

Collector or not ?

Herb, nice story and I start smiling when reading this because it's very recognizable for me ! The only air rifle who gave me an enormous smile when firing it for the first time is my BSA Lightning XL. Serious power from an air rifle what feels like it is an extension of your arm !! This rifle can stau for the next ....... years. If you have the chance try this superb rifle and you will also become a BIG smile, best regards from Johannis. ( 100% Diana fan but always good for a wink to British brands ! )

Johannis I'm sure....

I'd like a BSA Lightning or Lightning XL - lighter, compact, good
quality break-barrel springer so right up my alley or in my groove
so to speak Haven't owned a BSA yet - should have jumped on a
couple back a few years ago when the price was nice or nicer.

Long live the springers!

March 21 2008, 1:56 PM

I 'm the same way Herb.

I 'm done collecting or keeping 20 guns around the house. I 've sold a few of my 19 firearms already to friends, family, neighbors and co-workers. I 'm down to 13. May goal is to go down to 8 or 10 powder burners at the most.

I 'm not a collector either. As far as airguns, I would just like to stay with about 4 air rifles or so plus 1 pistol. I 'm getting there but I 'm in no hurry. I 'd like to own a 12fpe which I have, a 14-16fpe tuned-for-smoothness springer, an 18-20fpe springer (maybe .25cal), and an Ultra-Magnum 22-24fpe which I have. The 2 in the middle I 'm working on by looking at used guns. I have some pump and older CO2 Crosman .177 pistols but I guess I 've kept them for centimental value and mainly because they are not worth much. One out of those 4, the 760 is not even working. For $35-40 I could get for the others, I 'd rather keep them and shoot them once in a while.

I cut back the time I spend here a little, and you 're the only one that noticed! Don't worry I 'll e-mail you to say hi buddy. I 'm not ignoring you or anything.

You don't have to own a 350 for me to talk to you, only saying that you are considering one, is good enough for me to accept e-mails

BTW, good luck with the new house and property! Seems like you have plenty of privacy and a good shooting range. I hope the game is plentiful too! Did you scope out the area before you bought the lot? That's what I would do if I ever move, haha. Hey if you have trouble with the crows, you know who to call right?

DO NOT LET Harry with his 350 inside your property, all game will be shoot on sight and you will have to shoot paper for at least 5 years until re-population of all species

Wildlife Heaven!

March 21 2008, 4:58 PM

Hey Harry,Great to hear from you! Yeah I checked the property out first,I spent the last year in the area building 2 houses. I have behind my lot over a 1/4 mile square of un developable "wetlands"!! My friend owns most of the surrounding land. I can shoot any powder burner I want! (even though I very seldome play w/ "fire" anymore.) The place is ALIVE w/wildlife! Today the Hawks were "flirting" together,(mating season I guess),some crows as usual started pestering them,Im shure you have seen this anoying behavior directed at hawks from crows. Man I got out my ???? gun to "correct" those crows,They saw the gun & high tailed it out!! (was just going to scare them,LOL!). as you said before,Warren "is a cold blooded killer"!! If it was not for his 88 yr.old neighbor Fla. would be devoid of most small game!! You as well as my other friends are always welcome to visit our family,BUT,you Harry can only stay one day,I need to have some crows left for me!LOL!Tim.

Tim I don't have the 24s anymore.....

March 21 2008, 5:34 PM

but I sure did like 'em and found myself shootin' 'em a lot
too!

I had a 24c (.177) and a 24 .22 I cut the bbl down to 12"
and added a muzzle weight. Both quite accurate and so easy
and pleasant to shoot.

Herb
