from Sportsman's Guide. Actually $60 including shipping.

Fellas are reporting high 500s fps MV with CPs (14.3 gr) -
that's a nice little thump from a light weight break-barrel
springer.

I've had a MP512 .177 (not the M) - so I know the score or
how they are inside and out.

My plan is to cut the barrel 4" and bring the 41ish" OAL
down to about 38". Do some trigger work and add a bit more
spring using a JM. May not lose any MV from the bbl shortening
and suspect I'll likely gain some. Add a muzzle weight and 4x
AO scope.

Nice "little brother" to my IZH MP513M .22 carbine

Instead of say 'jacking' 15 or so pumps into a hopped up Cr 13xx
pistol/mini-carbine just one cocking stroke and you're there at
high 11s to 12 FPE from a light weight fairly compact springer
carbine. I like that!

Heck I may cut 6" off the bbl! LOL

I had to do the same...

I hope my daughter will get some use out of it.
For $50.00, it is worth a try.

Izzys

Herb,
FWIW-----if anything-----I just got up and went out to the shop to make sure my recall was correct about the model # of the one I recently went thru. It is a wood-stocked 512M in .177.
My goal was to try to civilize the wee over-stressed beasty to try to get it down to R-7 plinking category satisfaction for my old back. After smoothing a LOT of imperfections and working on the trigger I reassembled it with a spring taken out of an R-7 that recieved a Macarri kit some years ago. That reduced spring pre-load a LOT even tho I shimmed it up a bit along with adding anti-torque washers. I shot it a couple of times to refresh my memory of the tuning results. Even after all of the rough edge removal, polishing and proper relubing the cocking cycle is still less than satisfactory to my sensibilities, the result I believe of problems inherant with the cocking linkage. And even with the weaker spring and reduced preload it still doesn't have that butter-smooth cocking and firing cycles of the better guns after tuning. I suspect at this point that it never will without sleeving the huge transfer port. If you've fooled with Chinese guns a lot you've probably had experience with sleeving transfer ports. Over-sized TPs are a 'cheap trick' seen on many inexpensive guns in an effort to extract velocity at the expense of durability. I just don't think there's enough 'meat' in the little lightweight Izzys to tolerate such mechanical punishment for a long time.
It does now cock & shoot much smoother and the trigger even verges on being almost tolerable but mistaking it for an R-7 or M-27 just ain't in the cards at this point.
Dunno if any of that will be helpful to you in any way but thought I would share my recent experience in case it might provide any insight for you before you attack your gun. Tom

They - I'm sure - vary in quality, 'turdness' or....

whatever just like the China AGs. I've did a lot of reading up on 'em -
in fact I was at a Russian AG forum the other day reading some tuning/
tweaking stuff including t-port mods. Some of the Russian AGers really
get wild with 'em like some of us with China AGs.

The 512 I had I just did a basic prep/lube/tune including installing a
shortened JM Merlin XL spring and polishing/lubing the trigger a bit.
Shot CPLs 660ish fps MV and with decent enough accuracy. Rested using
a 4x scope I could keep 'em inside a half inch at 25 yds. Easy cocking,
a bit rough/unrefined in shot cycle/trigger/cocking racket/noises.

Gave that one to a friend. Had been thinking about getting a 512M in
.22 but didn't want to pay $100 or so for one.
