He everybody,

I thought this might be an interesting topic....we'll see.

  1. So what is your "GO TO GUN" and what caliber is it?
  2. What about it would you change IF you were giving the designers/engineers your direct imput.

I shoot .22 cal Diana 350 Mags 99% of the time.

I WISH that Diana would give us better quality rear spring guides that we a bit bigger in their fit.
I WISH that they would include a high quality tophat in ALL models.

I don't care at all for the molded guides and the cheap material that they are made of...I wish that they were turned out of solid rod stock.

Princess Sue!

March 26 2008, 8:19 PM

Just yesterday my wife said: Im cleaning house,GET OFF THAT computer, get outside & shoot your guns!! Naturally I obliged! I grabbed Princess Sue (my Diana 24) & GOT OUT!! Got out to my "redneck" shooting range & proceeded to shoot some Super Pnts. Only "carelesness" I could find were some pine cones. I proceeded to spank them in a bad way! Man that little 24 is great fun to shoot! Some cig. buts out to 15 yrds.got a spankin too! If I could change my 24,,I would like to up it from 535 fps/8.3 Super Points to pushing 600 fps?? Its so sweet to shoot I would not want to make it harsh,But I think it could be done. Its so smooth now,(stock) I have $8 mounts that have not budged in over 1k shots! At 600 fps the ft lbs would make it viable to take care of squirrels out to 10 or 12 yrds. They reak havok on my bird feeders. After about an hour the wife let me back in,I soon was back here! Man I need to get off this "puter" & shoot more!! Tim.

It used to be my RWS Model 40 but since It's "finished", I now grab both my new .22 RWS Model 36 and my new to me/used .177 Model 34.

I too wish Diana would have gone the extra mile with those guides to control vibrations and perhaps put a better grade mainspring in there (to go with that better guide). I am afraid that both upgrades would have increased the more than reasonable prices of the rifles though.

Most average buyers aren't as finikey as us and will shoot their rifles as-is without the mods or tweeks we seek and discuss.  Velocity and accuracy out of the box is up to expected Europan Standards  so Diana DOES offer quite a good gun in comparison to like priced "stock" Gamo's and even the Beeman Spanish guns.

I agree Dave!

Now that is a bucket of truth!

I just wish that Diana would take that last extra step...even if it made the guns cost, say, $10-$20 more each in US Dollars.

Good 1 Dave!

My most shot is my Diana 75. The part I would change on that rifle is the pivot joint where the cocking arm attaches. It has a flat side and a round side. The fit at that point is tight. Almost too tight if the lever is pulled anything but straight back linearly. If you're not careful you can rub the blueing there. I would change that so that non linear stress on the cocking arm wouldn't cause any rubbing right where that pivot joint is.

Same things you guys commented about the spring guides, I agree with on my 46. Although I wish the stock rear sights were just a bit finer. I would like a globe with interchangeable inserts on the front sight too.

are you advocating that J Maccari go out of business LOL we already can mod the top hat and rear guide

now; these two simple corrections from Diana whould make me jump in joy

1. correct barrel droop
2. change the rail to maybe the weaver type

these two simple things would cost nothing to Diana and would leave us without two of the major headaches with the air guns. I can bet the farm that with these two changes they would sell twice as much of their products in the US market

I could get greedy and ask for a new trigger, new sights etc. but these are acceptable in the air guns, it's that DAM barrel droop and rail combination that drives most of us CRAZY

warren

PS: GO TO GUN for me is the ???? maybe my 48 or 34, still deciding after years of shooting them

and remember "it's 30% the gun and 70% the shooter"

Another vote for the 34, but I've not got alot of choice. Either that or a crossman springmaster at under 500fps (cdn model).

I'd also ask for an improved sight, and an improved scope rail. I won't ask for weavers, just a slightly more robust 11mm dovetail with deeper stop screws and deeper doves. Another no-cost improvement.

I can't complain about my guides and spring, my gun shoots stock without twang or vibration, just a Bampfh.

Droop would cost nothing to correct. they already mark the US market guns with RWS, so they're obviously a separate production run, and few here use diopters and peeps, so there is no reason to leave the droop in.

I'd like an aluminum trigger guard, the stock stamped metal piece looks cheap. I'll be carving my own when I get the chance.

Oh, and a butt pad. How much would that be? 2 bucks for just a bit of hard rubber to prevent the dread chipped toe?

That said, all these problems are easily corrected if I feel like it. Speaks volumes that I haven't yet bothered.

My DETUNED 34 in 177. with leapers bugbuster scope and offset mount. The detune turned this rifle into a a real smoothie. Easier to cock, eliminated all twang, tighter groups, quieter, shorter more precise shot cycle. I would change nothing. It is perfect.

2) My tuned HW 30 with open sights-Perfect

3) Waiting to have my R7 tuned. It is "rough" compared to the above guns.
