warren
PS: don't tell me you only have 1 air gun LOL X 2
and remember "it's 30% the gun and 70% the shooter"
Warren, thanks for providing me w/ a laugh after a hard day! Lest you forget my friend, you are stepping on the toes of the MASTER of providing us with truly life threatining laughter! (Red Feather has nearly killed me on numerous occasions!!) I hope his new "puter" can keep up w/ his old one! Every time I think about "how to choose a tuner" Or, Squirrels in my "hood" I still bust out laughing! Oh yea, the Crossman employee thing is a TRUE classic! Great to have you back R.F.! Tim.

I'm here Tim!

But 'it's Springtime 'here' in the Ozarks---my LEAST favorite time of the year when the debt becomes due on all of the things I've put off over winter.
Plus now that it's warm enough to not require heat in the shop I'm spending every second I can steal from chores on trying to finish up some airgun projects. Need to get then finished so I can reassemble a 1948 Johnson TD-20 5 horse outboard that I had some machine shop work done on to remove a couple of broken headbolts. I hope I haven't lost any of the parts because it is one antique that works! Unlike the owner. Tom
Tom, I made the mistake of giving my '49 QD10 Long shaft away to a guy who I realize now never appreciated it. That thing could actually plane on my 14ft Lund. I've since gotten into newer motors. A 1955 Evinrude Fleet Twin Whisper Quiet 7 1/2 horse. Not as quick but smooooth. I love the way those old things chug when you turn em way down low haha.

Never had a TD-10 (could you be thinking of the HD-25 which was a single cylinder--half of a TD-20--of 2 1/2HP?) so I dunno if it had the same carb system as the TD-20. But it's a fascinating fuel delivery system to techno geeks such as ourselves. In essence it uses two seperate induction systems for high and low speed operation. High speed operates from a 'normal' venturi/butterfly carb and piston port timing. The low speed system from off all the way thru mid-range operates solely on a rotary valve controlled venturi similar to a model airplane carburetion systen feeding directly into the crankcase. The interesting part is that the low-speed venturi is only slightly more that a 1/4" ID! But it'll feed that 5 horse motor up to @ half speed---somewhere @ 2,000RPM! You could literally remove the high speed carb, block off it's manifold and still use the motor. The TD-20 became the standard for livery operators and fishermen. Unlike the competition their unique low speed induction system allowed them to troll all day without fouling plugs even at 16 to 1 fuel/oil ratios because of the near perfect fuel atomization due to the high velocity of the incoming air thru that tiny venturi. They were THE perfect motor for use in rentals where the customer wasn't familiar with outboards. They were as close to idiot-proof as a mechanical device can be. Once warmed up they'll restart at idle or anywhere else. And nothing else can get down and 'Cadillac' at super low RPM like a TD-20.
Because so many were sold it's still possible to find a good TD-20 if you look. And they're the perfect 'first' antique for those interested in such things. As far as that goes no one has built a better fishing motor yet! I'm willing to bet that up in your neck of the woods where lakes are as common as Dust Devils in Texas that there are still old-timers using them on their fishing skiffs. After all---you can't wear them out---only 'stupid' them to death. Tom
Probly only Harvey & Mr Tom will understand. Thanks Russ for letting us talk a little about other than airguns. Tim. P.S. Thanks Russ for your devotion to our forum. Tim.
Engines are one of my favorite subjects! Computers are close behind.
I do much of the engine management work for the worlds oldest engine manufacturer so I get to do both.
Russ S.
P.S. I know the computer was used for airgun related stuff and I bet a boat powered by one of those engines could have an airgun on board somewhere
Redfeather, welcome back. Nice to know that I have a fellow Virginian in the mist.
By the way, I also had been taking "SUPPOSTORIES" bud sadly, had no results. For all the good they did me, I COULD HAVE STUCK THEM UP MY a$#! LOL
Nah, don't worry about it. People here are into lots of things and I personally think we should be able to talk about those things once in a while.
The key being once in a while lol.
Tom and I have a history. Bikes and a little bit about outboards so we go off into the wild blue now and then. We mean no harm but sometimes we see esoteric connections. Politics too lol.
You betcha!! Breech loaders?? LOL! LOL! GREAT TO HAVE YOU back Mr. Red Feather!! Tim. P.S. I am a certified Scuba Diver & Pilot. (mostly just plain "certafiable") I have at last count,6 pretty nice R.C. Planes! (one Super Kaos w/ retractable landing gear/OS Max 60 power. And oh yea,Harv. I still have my 77 "ring a ding" Yammy 2 stroke twin bike!! LOL. Tim.
I had suspected Red might be joking but we did hijack the thread a tad LOL.
Thanks for sharing your sense of humor Red. Was beginning to wonder if it was April 1st somewhere.
Discussing everyone's hobbies would make a good thread though.
