Hi Johannis,

I started this as a new string as the picture is a little large in visual size.

I read your post about 100m shooting with the 460 and left a question for you; I hope you see it. It was a nice evening here in Vegas, so I thought that I would go out in the desert behind my house for a little Jackrabbit hunt but I didn't see a darn thing. I was getting ready to leave when I thought of your post about 100m shooting so I quickly setup a target to zero in on at 115 yards. After 15 test shots to find the mark, I set the target that you see below and took a quick 10 shots while sitting on a 5 gal. paint bucket before the sun went down...it was already getting a bit dark...thank God for illuminated reticles and MilDots.

Here are my results....I will try again this weekend using a bench (I use a folding sawhorse with a heavy blanket folded over it as a rest and the ol 5 gal. bucket as a seat - very informal out in the desert! )...I will give you scope settings and better documentation on the next test...this was just a "quickie" test to see what I could come up with before it got too dark to shoot.

Oh, the 350Mag that I was shooting is my "power tuned 350" hunter which is not a smooth as my other tuned 350 (I hate the word smooth)...I tuned it so that its sole purpose is to be a hunter in the "up to 55+ yds" range on larger 4-legged game like Coyotes...it currently throws .22 cal. 21g Kodiaks in the mid to high 730s....at up to 55 yards, I can keep most all shots in relative center of the bottom of a soda can shooting offhand (standing up).

-Curtis

115 yards info.

April 4 2008, 7:36 AM

Curtis, this is fantastic info and make me realise that we have not to be desperate to become some good results. The 48 is "more human" than the 350 is my idea so we have to ( we decided this already yesterday evening ) tune our 48 in .117 to a maximum. I already fitted the 3-9 x 40 Diana instead the 4 x 32 Diana Magnum scope. Pellets are the RWS Meisterkúgeln or the Haendler & Natermann Finale match. Have a good look to the card of our Dutch top airgunner on the 100 meter Peter and compare with yours !! You can join our shoot with your results, let me know which type of scope you use and which pellets ? Best regards from Johannis.

Curtis has his 350 on "Steroids" compared to your 48, granted the 48 is more of a gentleman's airgun but at 100 yards you need the power and the right pellet, different barrel's make different holes in paper

warren

and remember "it's 30% the gun and 70% the shooter"

Johannis, Flat nosed pellets are not the best choice

April 5 2008, 10:22 AM

for this kind of shooting.

At 100 meters, they can slow enough to de-stabilize. Remember that pellets fly straight MOSTLY due to the parachute effect from the skirt, not the rifling twist.

Try them, but also try CPH's, JSB H's and Kodiak Match's. Try them in their different head diameters also.

Good luck!

Un Abrazo!

Flat nose pellets.

April 5 2008, 11:48 AM

Hector, it's correct that flatnose's are good for 25 meters but on the 100 even the Haendler / Naterman Field TT ( 0.56 gram ) gave e better result. I will do some tests with the BSA's because they performed superb in the AA Prosport yesterday. Best regards from Johannis.

Ok boys, 1 for each of ya...

April 4 2008, 8:50 PM

Jan:I have set myself to really working hard on designing a set of blueprinted tune specfications for your 48 (I have one and a 54 [both .22 cal.]) so I know those guns better than just pretty darn good (I DO however think that a super-refined, tuned 54 in .22 cal. shooting JSB Exact Jumbos or Kodiaks would be a bit better for THIS type of shooting, but the 48 can be made to work very well if done just right)...I think that you will be pleased with the info; it's gonna be pretty technical but I have a good "gut" feeling that as a total configuration, it would be a drop-dead winner for your 100m shoot and probably make those PCP boys CRY all the way home!!!!!

Tim:I just tried to say in the email that I sent ya how I honestly feel about this place and some of the boys that I consider to be my new found friends...I hope I hit the mark! Ya know, Short of Duncan (Jay) and Dave (ZVP) and a couple of others, if ya look at who posted here, all of the names are in the email and I think that Jan is now added to the list, he seems like a great guy! And thanks for the verbal "pat on the back" for the 115 yd shooting...I am going to TRY and shoot off a rest this weekend and I am SURE that I can get better results if the wind doesn't kick up out in the desert...shooting at that distance while sitting on a 5 gal bucket SUCKS! laugh - I'll be looking foward to your call this weekend!

BTW, did anybody see the results that Duncan Idaho (Jay) turned in with his 460 at 100 yards; VERY respectable indeed and I believe that he is shooting at about 5000' in elevation!! Good job Jay and I am glad to see that the gun is making you a happy camper...I hope our phone conversation helped in some small way!
Take a look here to see his great shot grouping...

Warren: - Steroids? I think U R right...I DID buy the gun from Barry Bonds now that I think of it! - Ooooo that was b-a-d!! laugh - I haven't forgotten about our scheduled call this weekend either!

Ray: I am scared to NOT feed it BIG HEAVY PELLETS cause I swear that everytime that I shoot it, instead of a "tha-wock" sound I hear something like Arnold's Terminator voice going "I vant to Sp-eeet B-eeeg He-veee Pel-leeets at dat Girl-eeee Yak-Vabb-eeeit"
Translation:I want to spit big heavy pellets at that girley JackRabbit

Harry:I don't know if I hit a hare or if I somewhere over a th-hare (points), but whatever I hit I killed it! I didn't get your gun yet...I am putting on my running shoes right now and gonna meet it at the Mississippi and then run it home by hand...faster that way!!!!!! LOL

I am fighting this idiot here in town that I used to get Delrin rod stock from in 2' sections, now he says that I have to buy 6' of it...agggggggggggggggg! Gonna start shooting silhouette targets of material vendors!!! Bet I score a (X) EVRYTIME!!!!    6' of the stuff can ya believe????...damm, gonna start buttoning EVERYTHING I can get my hands on...in between Steph's toes, the cat's butt, the hot-swap drive trays on the damm puters....even gonna put buttons on the sides of MY piston....uh - er...(looking around for moderators)....never mind!! -ROTFLMAO- Actually, it worked out better for me because I found a place online that is not only cheaper than what I used to pay, but the S&H is FREE!!! Hee Hee Hee!! (pirate laugh)!! ---- I know I know...that is a whimpy pirate laugh...but ya see, back in the Port of Yates, I had a scuffle wit me mates, I fell on me cutlass which rendered me nutless and virtually useless on dates!!

Ok boys, it is dinner time for me...gotta go before Steph snipes me in the back of the head...she's a vicious shot with that dang 10m eye-plucker!

Hi Johannis,

I had a look at your 55x55cm target for 100 meters. Perhaps you would tell us the distance between the rings, the diameter of the 7 ring and the overall diameter?

We could then draw a facsimile of this target so we could compare apples to apples! Or perhaps someone knows of a US source for these 100 meter targets.

thanks,

Duncan

Hey Tim look...Duncan finally made it!!!

April 4 2008, 9:00 PM

Hey there Duncan,

It took me so long to write the post that you got yours slipped in before me....I was telling Tim in an email that I sent to him that some of you boys here feel like new found friends....shoot'en buddies, ya know!?!? Then when I started to post my message, I saw that everybody who had already posted was on that "new frineds list" with you and Dave (ZVP) and a couple of others included on the list too.

Good darn shooting with the 460...I included a link to your results in my post!

Ok...Steph is giving me "that" and holding my plate of dinner....

Here I go.....poof gone!

hehe I love this place

Curtis, you and Duncan are setting the American outdoor 100 meter bar high. That's going to make Johannis proud. A blueprinted 48...

The consistancy of the rifle is going to be aided by the kind of trigger that dang near surprises the shooter when it happens.

How long do you think it'll take to build your rifle?

Since I don't have access to a 100m range...

April 4 2008, 9:46 PM

can I take my 50m group measurements and multiply them times two?
Nice shooting guys. I love the idea of pushing the boundaries of springer accuracy. Hopefully it catches on and we can get others involved.

Curtis: e-mail?

April 6 2008, 10:29 AM

I was not included in that e-mail! Thanks a lot buddy.. Are you discriminating against those that do not have access to a 100m range? Don't you know I shoot crows in Warren's back yard in Florida from my NY home? They call me "Long Range Harry"..

Well I didn't sleep too well last night with my baby missing from the gun case. Next time I 'm driving it over!
