The great RWS mystery

I contacted Kevin and Straight shooters about the new Fuerkraft RWS rifles. and here is his reply:

"OK...here's the update. There is a RWS 350 Feuerkraft and also a Feuerkraft ProCompact (carbine). There are only three differences from a standard RWS 350.
1) The stock is much plainer in appearance. No checkering, long and plain. No raised cheekpiece. Reminds me of the old Beeman R6 stock...Plain Jane
2) It has fiber optic sights rather than the standard 350's hooded front sight.
3) The barrel and action are not shiny...they are matte finish.
Other than those differences, it's the same 350 rifle. Velocity claims are 1000 in .22 and 1250 in .177. My guess is that they achieved those using 4 grain pellets from Gamo or something similar. Real life with real pellets will be as stated on our site in the Our Take section.
Looks like the price will be about $20 less expensive than the regular 350. The weight and length are almost the same although the longer version of the Feuerkraft claims to be 1/2 lb. lighter than a standard 350. (8 lbs v.s. 8.5) and the carbine features a big pickle on the end and also weighs 8.5 lbs. The longer, standard one does not have the pickle.
So there is all I can tell at this time. Will we carry it? I don't know. Give me some feedback and we'll see."
Kevin

As one poster commented. ' I am glad I bought a 350 2 years ago, as this one is a "pickle"

PA, Umraex VS Straight Shooters

April 11 2008, 6:34 AM

I want to thank Kevin at Straight Shooters. He responded to my question right away. He did not know the answer at first but made some calls and responded right away. Shame on Pa and Umarex for not supplying the info and shame on PA for a gross exaggeration's of this gun. I still have not received a E-mail request from Umarex after day's of sending the requested info. I never expected them to respond and they as usual acted accordingly.
It is obvious that PA is into selling guns at any cost to include their integrity

plain pickles

April 11 2008, 7:32 AM

that's what these new Feuercraps are The original one is still the best one as far as quality, appearance, weight and cocking effort. The Fuerkraft carbine 350 has a 42lb cocking effort due to the shorter barrel. Almost 10lbs more than the regular 350 (33lbs). They can keep it. The carbine also comes standard with a scope so the price is $100 more than a regular 350. They should give you the option to purchase it without a scope so we can install our own. Not for me, maybe it suites other people's tastes but I don't think these are going to sell well at all.

P/A's web site does have all the info on them but you have to click on the little "+" sign to look at the Specifications - where it says "click for specifications" usually under the picture of the gun. They seem to list the proper weight in there too for all the models as well as the cocking effort, etc. If you blow up the pics you can tell that there is no raised cheek on the butt, etc. so I knew everything you posted from SS. The info has been up there on P/A for 2+mos.. BUT in a typical P/A fashion, they have jacked up the prices on these plain Jane models which is abusurd for what you get, or don't get, I should say. They always try to at least cover the 10% coupon that they know most buyers will use, but since Kevin said the regular Feuerkraft is $20 less, now we know P/A gets them cheaper but charges $30 more than the standard (better) 350.

I really don't think it was Diana's intention to make these models more expensive. I think it's Umarex and P/A that has jacked up the prices just because it's something "new".

I think we 'll see more realistic prices from StraightShooters, just like they have the Beeman R9 Goldfinger for $499, while P/A lists it for $579! Again, I 've said this before and continue to say it, P/A is one of the most expensive airgun vendors on line IMO. What attracts buyers to them is 'the buy 3 tins get one free', and the greater variety of guns they carry which I think noone else can match. But even their pellets are expensive, and are forced to purchase 3 tins which is no big deal most of the time. I made some calculations from other web sites that charge $5.26 for a tin of .22 Kodiaks, compared to P/A's price of $7.80. If I bought 3 tins from each copmany the savings were obviously substantial compared to P/A's higher price. If I bought 4 tins from the "other company" and 3+1 from P/A the savings were only $2 in favor of P/A, BUT PA's shipping was about $1 more, so the savings were only $1 even with the free tin! The amount will vary obviously with other brand or type of pellets, but it was just one example. P/A also takes 3 days to ship your order, which is too long as everyone else I 've ordered from does not take more than 1 day to ship.
Today I got an e-mail from P/A with the heading "amazing prices". I click on it and the prices are the same everyday ones. There 's just no hope for these people..

Half truths and lies

April 11 2008, 11:39 AM

Great post Harry. And you are right on the money. I saw the specs on the Website, but they should have put some kind of info about the gun being what you said and to list the origin of country. The added speed is just a lie period. The gun with the plain stock should sell for LESS!!! This is nothing but deceptive advertising to get a new young or inexperienced air gunner to buy less for more. It is disgraceful. I only buy from SS from now on. Even if I pay more. Thank you for taking the time to do the pellet purchase calculations. I sure many will now switch to STRAIGHT SHOOTERS~

Danger Will Robinson!

April 11 2008, 7:13 PM

Harry, why is the cocking effort of the "F" upped model less than the real 350 according to PA yet the "F" a faster gun? Why would this gun cost more? Especially considering the un-checkered stock?

CAUTION! Please all new comers or rookies getting ready to buy a great RWS 350. magnum. DO NOT BUY FROM PYRAMID AIR UNTIL WE FIGURE THIS OUT! DO NOT BUY A 34 EITHER!

no difference

April 13 2008, 2:40 PM

Dave, there 's absolutely no difference in these guns' powerplants. The regular 350 has always had a 33lb cocking effort, so the 36lbs is a typo or wrong information. IT's the same as the "F" ones, 33lbs.

The higher velocity claim on P/A for 1,000fps in the .22cal version is a typo or simply BS. Something Umarex probably made up. It's possible they took some very light pellet and retested and came up with this high #. We do know that a 350 .22 (and a 460) will shoot over 900fps with an 11.9gr RWS Hobby pellet, thus the 920fps advertised for the regular 350. It could be possible they found some lighter pellet, perhaps a non-lead one that performed in the high 900's. It's anyone's guess..

Close Harry

April 13 2008, 3:17 PM

very close indeed

Straight Shooters has chrony #'s on both the 350 and 460

350 w/hobby 12.10 gr. = 867 FPS, with CP 14.3 823 FPS

460 w/hobby 11.9 gr. = 875 FPS and CP 14.3 835 FPS

interesting fact was that the hobby in the 350 was 12.10 gr. and on the 460 (same pellet) was 11.9, maybe they did weight them since they are the same brand, different Tin's maybe?? hobby's are in the range of 11.9 to 12.10 grain

as of the cocking effort of any air gun, whoever markets them takes the liberty to advertise their #'s but 33 to 36 is average there is no set # meaning yours will cock at 33 and mine will cock at 34 or 35 being the same air gun

warren

and remember "it's 30% the gun and 70% the shooter"

true

April 13 2008, 4:18 PM

but the same goes for SS's CP velocity of 823. I never got a # that low with CP's on the Chrony. Well maybe once I think with a CP that fit too loosely in the breach. When the gun had ~1200 shots through it, 14.3 CP's on my 350 were shooting 850-860fps with an 870 every 10-15 shots. After ~2,400 shots the velocity dropped 20fps across the board with all pellets and even then CP's were shooting between 834 and 846. I chronied it a couple of days before I sent it out last week. The cocking effort was also getting harsher and sounded a little rougher than before. I knew then it was time for some tuning and lubes because that told me the spring had some fatigue and possibly some friction or gauling, maybe from shooting a lot of heavy Kodiaks and Crow Magnum pellets in a very dry gun which didn't help either.

Dave, I hope your get the 460 tuned soon because whatever little lube our guns have from the factory they lose it after about 1,000 shots. I wouldn't shoot it much if I were you because you don't want to develop any gauling from metal against metal..

460 tune

April 13 2008, 5:46 PM

Harry, my 460 was being tuned BY MZ but he had a problem with the trigger when putting it back together. He sent it to Umarex who said the the trigger issue was a common problem with the gun. I should get it back soon. Also MZ marveled at the engineering of the 460. He was quite impressed with the new "engineering", not ready to make a judgement on the gun itself until the tune is complete. He has been out of town lately, but I should see him soon. I will keep you up to date. As you know he tuned the 34. and that is now a completely new gun.

460 tune

April 13 2008, 6:24 PM

Harry, let me clarify the tune. I was speaking about the 460 engineering being different from the 34 and I guess the 350 He has tuned many RWS guns but this was his first for the 460. I will try and get him to do a post about the tune when he gets back. I watched him tune the gun, but do not recall if it was depleted of grease. I do know that I had very high crony numbers for a long time, but did experience a drop to around that of SS numbers. ( I assumed this was normal break in_ I will not be able to post my chrony numbers after the tune, as I am getting my DE-tuned and it obviously would not be a accurate comparison.
