i just bought my first diana. mod 54. seems every one gripes about the scope rail on these. the factory scope mount that came with the rifle was, i have to admit pretty crappy. no matter how much i tightened it, it was'nt gonna work. so i just took the 2pc mounts off an old beeman scope and put it on there. seems to work so far. any ideas on what i need for this rifle. i really like it so far. it is a bit more heavy than i am use to though. thanks scott - first time poster on this site.

hello

April 21 2008, 2:43 AM

and welcome

you will experiment with different mounts until you stumble into the right one or read posts about which are the best from oyher members and go that route

PS: by the way what cal. is your 54?

and remember "it's 30% the gun and 70% the shooter"

Think i'm going with the b-quare 1 piece like suggested on pyramid airs blog, and hang the front stop off the front. I have the 22cal 5.5mm any other suggestions would be apreciated. the gun shoots really well once you learn the tricks to it, like snapping the action back forward after each shot makes the cocking action easier. thanks

Actually, I would say that the mounts depends more on the scope than on the rifle; scope size, sadle size and location, eye relief, height and objective size; all play a role in the selection of mounts.

IF you live in the US and IF you can afford it, the best mounts would be the drooped BKL's; choose the right ones as far as height, diameter, extension, number of screws, etc...

You can either buy them drooped or you can have them drooped by Tim MacMurray write to him for the procedure, it is really interesting and the results are as clean as possible. After the procedure the rifle, scope and mounts will be "married" to each other, but if you really want "dependable" then that is the way to go.

Of course this means that you will have to buy a very sturdy scope and smaller is better as far as sturdy is concerned.

well i'll prob go a little cheaper....

April 21 2008, 4:29 PM

on the mount if the one in question is too expensive. right now i just have the scope that came with the rifle package, but i plan on a leapers ts in the near future, when i can afford it. I do have one question. will the clamp on scope stops work on one of these? the ones i see on pyramid all say 11mm, which is what the mounts that came with the gun say. i could not get them to tighten enough to stay on. so on that i'm a little confused. thanks

Scott

Scope stops are unnecessary with BKL's.

Just factor in that with the price of everything.

A good aspect of the Diana rail is that is has two stop holes and one third in the rear. This last stop hole can be threaded and / or enlarged to make it a true pin-held stop. You need to do it carefully, but it can be done with a simple hand-held variable speed drill, a sharp nice drill and patience.

A good option (although unliked by many) is the old RWC "C" mount. If you take the time to make the scope stop screws true "dog faced screws" they work very well. Otherwise they do not.

If you want to play it simple, then you need to pay more, if you are willing to learn and adjust it yourself and make sure it works well, then you can go more on the inexpensive side. Your choice.

Yup!

Yes, Tim.

It is a Leapers Bug-buster.

It focuses in and out very well out to 40 meters, but beyond that, everything is in focus! LOL!

It is not an FT scope, that is clear. But it is a good hunting scope. Mil Dots are not real milliradians, but I have come to accept that. If the Grackle height takes 2 dots, it is 40 meters away, if it takes 1 dot it is 80 meters away and too far off.

I guess the best way to put it is that the small Leapers is a HUNTING scope as opposed to a SHOOTING scope that would need to be much larger. For shooting/sniping I would recommend a 10X minimum with a side focus saddle.
