Never noticed before but my son's 34/.22 continues to shoot low even with the rear sight as high as it goes. The front sight is near impossible to remove with out buggering the phillip's screw.I'm of the opinion they should have hung that screw inventor! The front post seems to be bent rearward to fine tune elevation .I should just get a BKL D7 mt and skip the irons but they would be nice for the interm and backup.Pellet wieght doesn't seem to matter it's always low.I wonder if a HW front sight would fit at least there's inserts....................Harold
I picked up a used B20, sans sights. A fellow shooter had a set he had taken off to scope his and, when I put them on mine, I could not get a decent sight picture. I noticed the barrel has a slight up angle and it had been scoped by the original owner. Bet he bent it slightly to take out the droop. Your 34 may be the same way.
chronied the 34 lately Harold? It 's possible the power is down and might need a breech seal or a good tune. I started noticing the same thing with my 350 after 2,200 shots but only with the Kodiaks and Crow Magnums - the heavier pellets. POI at 25yds seemed to be consistently 1/4" lower than usual (on iron sights). I then put it through the Chrony and realized the gun had lost some power.
How long since you cleaned the bore out with some goo-gone?
I don't own a chrony after 25 years of handloading! Just never got around to getting one as they're cheap enough. The 34 hasn't seen 500 pellets yet so it shouldn't be needing atune.I never paid much attention to the original position of the front post but it's bent back at a 45 degree angle.Likely to counter barrel droop.I think they used a torque wrench to install the front sight.I'm getting good groups with the JSB Exact jumbos while the Crosman premier's were ill fitting crap. Those will be turned into ice fishing jigs or .54 muzzleloader balls.Last resort will be barrel bending. Not great QC for a new gun..................Harold
You place the barrel into a wooden jig, basically so it,s supported at both ends. Then you can use a comealong or whinching device in the center to slowly apply a downward pull on the center of the barrel. My brother built one and used a motor and strap from a handtruck. You can put the two inch wide strap around the barrel and very slowly have the motor apply presure. We don,t have it down to a exact science yet,but it helps alot on 34,s and 350 mags where you almost always need a dropper mount.
The barrel bending unit I saw was a 2x6 laid flat with two grooved blocks at either end and a huge eye bolt in the middle.A piece of copper plumbing pipe was place between the barrel and the eye bolt to protect the finish. When it was tightened the barrel droop could be corrected by eye.Primative but effective...................Harold
For the time being I think a front sight off of a CZ630 is a full quarter inch lower and should fit the dovetail. Can't believe they get out of the factory like this! Not at all like my Weihrauch 80K .22 Barrel bending will be a last resort if all else fails.......I hope the BKL D-7 mt will do for the scoping when i get around to ordering one............Harold
If your gun shoots too low with the rear sight all the way up, your barrel is drooped DOWN.
Fixes would be either a droop compensated scope mount, bending the barrel UP, or bending the front sight blade down/rearward.
