Dave,
Man you really have me intrested in that 34 of yours! It sounds like where I want to go with mine.
I bought myself a .177, TO-1 version at a VERY good price from Pamona Airguns a few months ago. The purchase was purely emotional, I'd always admired the basic Model 34, and had a feeling that once I'd gotten one, it'd become a favorite! Mine is in good shape, the Stock has a nice grain and the mechanicals are strictly "stock", just lubed well. Velocity and accuracy with this 1998 Model is excellent, it wears a 3x12 BSA A/O Target scope and appears to be a tackdriver at 40-50 yds!
Lacking a chrony, I can't quote any exact fps but I'll venture to estimate that the gun runs near the 4 digit neighborhood with light ammo and goes supersonic ( with a loud R/F-like crack! ) shooting the ultra-lightweight Crosman lead free pellets. Tests to date have indicated though that the rifle prefers the 7.9 gr Crosman Premire best.
Extended shooting sessions with this sweetheart leave an old fella like myself with sore muscles and the unwanted recoil effect of a sore sholder from repeated wood to bone contact, LOL! As expected, muscular fatigue sets in and steadiness and hold consistancy suffers during long shooting sessions (Ya just can't put it down!).
I think a De-Tune similar to yours is the answer. I quickly dug around trying to locate your post explaining the method you used, but somehow couldn't find it. Could you please either write me at my e-mail dnemanic@sbcglobal.net or repost the particulars so I can get some ideas on what to do with mine.
I e-mailed to JM about the rifle and he said he could make-up an entire multiple part, custom fit, package for the rifle however fitting it might be more technical than I am able. I'm NOT wanting to get too radical because the rifle already shoots pretty well, and I don't have much of a workshop or skills to dive too far into fitting a technical custom kit.
NO offense meant towards JM!
I just want to review several other ideas about maybe some simpler ways to reduce cocking effort.. Worst case, I'll fit a thick, soft, recoil pad and live with it.
Thanks,
ZVP
