Had my Webley Xocet carbine .22 out today shooting some 30 yd.
seated/rested groups using CPs and FTS. I've got a Leapers
3-9x32 AO/MD scope mounted on top using a medium Accushot one
piece. I usually/mostly keep it set at 6x.

After shooting several 1/4" to 3/4" 5 shot groups and dialing
the scope in on the 1/2" target dots on the big target box a
sparrow landed on top a small soup can slipped over a metal
rod stuck in the ground at the 100' marker. I immediately
put the cross hairs one sparrow head above the actual sparrow
head and then squeezed off a shot. Sparrow dropped like a little
bag of lead hit center up side the head. After going out to see
for sure where the pellet hit I called the cat to eat the snack.

Spent about an hour after that just plinking small soup cans and
tuna cans from 75' out to 200'. Got to poke holes in the cans before
I smash them

Herb

Looks like I'm going to have to initiate a Steroid Sparrow thread

Just be sure it's an English sparrow as they are non-native.

Herb! A sparrow is certain a very small target. It's actually smaller than we think because there 's much less meat behind all those feathers to hit.
Yeah just make sure they are not song sparrows which are pretty cool and sing beautifully. I have a couple of them on my property every day and leave them alone. They have a wide dark brown line on their head and their beak is not like an English sparrow beak (thick & short), but a little more skinny and pointy.

Tim: My cat used to do the same! She would follow me and just lay low on the grass about 15-20ft behind me all the time especially when I started pumping! They are smart. She knew every time I walked out with that 760 pumper and followed me everywhere I went! If I didn't have the gun in my hand, she 'd go her own way. It doesn't take long for them to relate the gun with a dead bird, squirrel or chipmonk. We used to have a chipmonk 'infestation' when I lived at my parents as a teenager. She used to love chasing them and she caught many of them. She never ate them and hardly ate the birds either. She would sometimes decapitate them as she did with a couple of squirrels and rabbits she caught. She would just bring them home when she caught them and drop them off on the porch inches from the sliding door every time. Once in a while they were headless and I knew that because my mom would scream
Whenever I shot something, she 'd run and pick it up like a trained dog and just play with it for about an hour. We allowed her to have 1 litter before neutering her and it was great watching her bring back live chipmunks, mice, baby rabbits, and birds to train her kittens with in the hunting arts. She would mangle them a little so they couldn't run full speed or fly but kept them alive for a couple of hours sometimes so her 3 kittens would practice on them. Sometimes the prey was completely healthy, just in shock and when they recovered from it they would run full speed but my cat would catch it again and bring it back, although a couple of times the prey escaped as she was laying down or had began taking a nap while the kittens were playing with their "new toy". It was amazing to see how gentle she was with some of these animals that they actually had no puncture wounds at all from her teeth, maybe some small scratches from her claws. I guess the whole idea was for them to be able to run a little so the kittens would give chase. Too bad they didn't have digital cameras back then. I could have taken a lot of interesting photos.
