Smoothest shooting Diana out of the box?June 11 2008 at 5:41 PM | Model48 (no login) from IP address 70.240.133.16 |
| Ok - for all of you out there who own, shoot, or have shot the entire Diana rifle line - Here's a question:
Which model is consistently the smoothest, accurate shooter right out of the box? I'm not talking about how sweet it was after the tune, etc. Just right out of the box. |

HMMMM,, Every single Diana I have ever had the privilage of opening a new box on (about 12) has been really sweet after a hundred rounds or so. Sorry Im no help, they ALL shoot great to me?? Tim. P.S. The used ones are even BETTER!! (Kinda like Wine) Ok, I once had a 48 that shot like a champ after only about 50 shots,, I shure do miss her!! Tim. |

The best Diana has always been the Model 27.
I have been playing/dabbling/modifying with Diana 27s for 40+ years.
Currently:
I have a 50s vintage Geco 27 drilled and tapped for a Lyman 57 aperture and a filed front dovetail grooved for a Williams firesight.
It has a BSA Meteor spring with thin torque washers.
A bit snappy but excellent.
I have a 60s vintage Diana 27 with an epoxied Williams Guidesight and a Williams .250N Firesight inserted into the original sight base.
It has 44 coils of .105 wire .714 OD machinegun spring in a sleeved piston and torque washers.
Scatchy when cocking,(work to do), but excellent.
I have a 1976 Geco 27 which has never been opened (as far as I know).
It has a Bushell 4 x 32 Sportview in Milett Angle-Loc Mounts.
I am convinced that I should stick with the original 39 coil .109 wire with these 27s.
Better out-of-the-box than any mod that I have tried.
I strongly recommend the Milett Angle-Loc scope rings for airgunners.
Solid Steel, Allen Screwed - impossible to thread strip.
Tightened from both sides - dovetail width not a factor in alignment.
Available engraved - very pretty.

Nothing smoother than recoiless, correct? |

For a hunting rifle, probably the 54. To the shooter, it is smooth. If you are talking about any Diana, then the Giss system guns like the 75. My 75 does nothing more than make a pop and punch holes.
(27's are great guns. However, he did say "out of the box", meaning factory stock specs.) |

Its got to be the Diana 100.
