Want to have some fun this summer? Then invest in a little springer called the IZH 61, or "Litle Black Russian". This gun is a very under rated rifle that is really fun to shoot. It is light weight and holds a clip of five pellets. It is extremly accurate and has a great trigger. This is a gun that you can literally Shoot flies. I just ordered my second Izzy and will be mounting a bug buster scope on it. (for real bug busting)!

Good Shooting Dave

Ps you can get the gun from GunBroker.com or $94.00, PA has been sold out for six months as well as most all other vendors.

Dave

Reading this Post, another "cheap but incredably accurate" gun comes to mind and that's the Daisy 717 Target Pistol.

At around $100 this rather large Single Stroke Pneumatic is capable of match-type accuracy at 10m once broken-in (about 300 shots to wear-in the internals). The Daisy uses common "O" rings for pressure seals and their low pressure SSP system lasts nearly forever. If a rebuild ever becomes necessary, they are simple and really cheap.

They only come in .177 these days (yes there was a sub-300fps .22 at one time...) and with their legandary consistancy, the pistol launches light wadcutters at around 380fps in.177. More than adequate for paper punching but WAY too slow for hunting but as an informal Target pistol  it's recoiless, wonderfully quiet, and  accurate! The factory Right Hand "Thumb Shelf " plastic grip makes the pistol feel as if it's literally grown to your hand and optional Left Hand grips are also available from Daisy.

The 717 is UGLY (No joke about that), made from rather rough castingsand several plastic parts, but do not be fooled as it is a top class Target pistol through and through! When used Plinking informally a benchrested 717 is easilly capable of suprising long range accuracy... You might say it's scarey how far these things can shoot accuratelly!

There once was a Model 777 "Match" variation with totally adjustable sights, trigger and ready to shape wood grip panels also a 747 intermediate model is still available. A Lothar Walthar barrel and adjustable trigger are standard. The basic 717 trigger is fixed and the barrel is a Daisy component (still VERY good!). On ALL models the Piston's Compression stroke is adjustable and properly adjusted, leads to super shot to shot consistancy.

My own 717 was purchased "Used" and cheap. The paint is chipped off all over and signs of heavy use wore the rest of the paint coating away years ago by other owner(s?). Even so, it's trigger is now worn-in to a beautifull letoff and the seals seem to being capable of NEVER being worn out and she still stacks Gamo Match Pellets as if brand new! I still use the 717 to check myself when other Pistol groups widen as I KNOW the 717 won't lie! The old 717 is unforgiving as a true Target Pistol should be. My errors will show immediatelly, the 717 is that consistant!

OK there is another GOOD, cheap gun. The Marksman 2004, but that's another string. I'll let someone else write-up that one...

Great info

June 21 2008, 3:05 PM

ZVP, great info. I will most definitely do some research on these guns. Unfortunately, I think the forum users turn a deaf ear if the gun is not advertised at least 1000 fps. Magnititis is the name of the game now a days.

Thanks for the info and good shooting!

Dave

I've been itching to get one of the izh 61's. Futuristic looking and easy to cock, perfect for the nephews when they come over.

Better buy two!

June 22 2008, 7:37 AM

IB You might want to get two. You won't want to give it up to the kids. I have very long arms and I extend the stock and put a limbsaver rubber stock pad and it works great. The trigger and the accuracy will surprise you.

Good shooting
Dave

Dave I bought the Drozd instead

June 22 2008, 8:29 AM

Long time no talk!!Michigan summers keep me away from the puter, and instead shooting, riding the Harley's and just having fun outside.
I lurk at night but usally just to see whats new and going on here at Dianawerks.
I had to respond to your new purchase though I have been eye balling the IZH61 for awhile.Damn you!You may have just pushed me over the edge.LOL!
I bought the Drozd awhile back and been going nuts with it.I finally had to give it a break as the CO2 carts and lead BB's are breaking me.(even bulk fills are killing me)
Back to the old faithiful Dianas and Disco, almost as much fun but the full auto can hook you up real quick.I even modified it to bulk fill but it is still expensive to shoot,my next plan is HPA for it,I started picking up the nessassery parts should finish it in a matter of weeks.$$$ is tight here .
Be back soon summers are too short here in Michigan.

Best Regards
BBGun Bob
PS I changed my e-mail address for awhile the spam got out of control.I don't need a bigger pecker and $.02 stock is not my bag,my colon is fine and I do not need a anti-home invasion deal,or online prescription just to name a few.
Geez they never give up.

Springers are Neat! One Shot One Bullseye!

IZZy model 60

July 1 2008, 1:51 PM

Bob, I just won the auction for a Baikal model 60. The model before the 62 with the all steel receiver and in single shot. Really a hard to find gun. Like I said, even the 61's are sold out every where and have been for months. These guns are really fun to shoot, I hope you get one soon. (if you can find one).

Sold Out!

July 3 2008, 6:49 PM

If anyone believes that this little rifle is not underrated, then please think again. I believe that this gun has been sold out about every where. For months, if now, if not a year. PA has had this gun listed for sale, and had continually put it on hold much like JSB .177 Diabolo Exacts".
It is virtually sold out for months everywhere. You guys like Diana's so do I, but you really must shoot this little "SPRINGER". The accuracy, and the trigger pull and adjustment is unbelieveable! It has a velocity of about 430fps plus which is more than most co2 guns in its class. As Gaylord is quoted "This is my gift to you.". This gun is really a fun gun to shoot.

forgive me for posting my enthusiasm for this great little gun, but I had to just put in more words for this "Fun" gun.

Izzy is It!

July 24 2008, 5:56 PM

Ok, sorry for the non-RWS post, but I can't help it. I received a new Baikal pistol, Model 46m today. What a gun! If only all my rifles had a trigger and smoothness like this work of art. You do not know what you are missing. By the way, PA just had a new shipment of Baikals 61's arrive.

Good shooting
Dave!vabch

Ps
Johannis, I followed you into the 10 meter world, and have to thank you.
Regards
Dave
