Diana 75 trigger adjustment

Greetings all - new to the board.

I recently purchased a beautiful (!, but I guess I don't need to tell you that) Diana 75, #012 227, production date 08 78 from the original owner who bought it in Germany early in 1979. I have the original owners manual in German which I can understand farily well thanks to help from my German wife. The rifle was fully serviced about 12 years ago and shoots beautifully. However I am having problems adjusting the trigger to my liking and I am writing to ask for your help. The trigger on this early Diana 75 seems to be somewhat different than those on later models.

I assume this is a two stage trigger. I am able to adjust the overall travel with screw d but I have been unable to determing what exactly screws b and a do. The manual indicates that screw a controls let-off weight (100 - 400 gm) but then says that screw b controls whether the trigger is "hartere" or "weichere." I am scratching my head asking harder or softer what? My wife could not figure that out either. Also, so far, I have not been able to set a clear second stage at least one the gives detectable resistance before let-off. So I have a trigger that has an extremely light first stage which when moved reward a few mm simply fires the rifle. I have a feeling that the adjustments of these three screws are interdependent and that there is a proper sequence to follow to set up the trigger properly. I have not touched screw c which the manual says should never be changed. It controls "der Lange des Abzug-Vorweges" which I think is the length of the first stage.

Any help will be much appreciated.

John

Hi Christy,

I just sat down to start on answering some posts that I saw earlier today. I was going to try and give you some help, but it looks like you already have things under control.

If you ever need helping breaking this gun down and tuning it up, let me know as I have some GREAT pictures and a long but accurate and easy to follow set of instructions.

BTW, that is one SWEET shooting gun....I wish that I had mine back.

Sincerely,

-Curtis

for your offer of help with the trigger and breakdown. I have the trigger set up now with a clear two stages and a very crisp, light and sweet let-off. She is shooting so nicely that I think I will postpone service until performance indicates it is needed. (Now I know where to come for help). In fact, this beautiful old rifle almost shoots 10s all by itself. I have been shooting a HW55T springer (scoped) and a FWB 603 (diopter), 10m, indoor, and I must say this Diana 75 is so much easier to shoot well than either of those very fine rifles. And it also is very nice to look at.

Thanks again for you offer of assistance.

Cheers,
John

Yup Tim my first name is John. Was entering my login name insead of my name name.

I have been lurking a bit for a couple of weeks learning about Dianas and Diana lovers. Good to know this community of great folks exists and gald to be a small part of it. You can bet I will come here for help when needed.

My background from years ago (too many to count) is smallbore competitive target shooting. Now several decades later I have begun to pick up 10m air rifle and am totally hooked. My eyesight is not anywhere near what it was and I have an intention tremmor in my right arm so it is a challenge but one I thoroughly enjoy. And my new old Diana 75 has immediately become my favorite. The build quality is outstanding as is its accuracy and simple beauty (Diana ain't bad herself!). But as I said above, I don't need to tell you folks this. Thanks for the welcome words and -

Good shooting,
John

Hi John, I could not help notice you post about your Diana 75, they are a great gun. I bought one back around Christmas for a present for myself after owning all of the older springer match guns the 75 is my favorite as well, I think the reason they shoot so well is because they are truly recoiless, since you were into smallbore I am shure you are familiar with Anschutz which was the first 10m gun I ever bought, though my 250 has the gleam you would expect it falls a bit short on firing behavior this is where the 75 is just so easy to shoot and will produce those factory looking test targets. Glad you found the forums and welcome.

Model 75

June 30 2008, 7:51 AM

I am just getting back into air rifles. Can someone post a photo of the Diana 75 and give me an idea of what they cost now?
It sounds like they are truly fine guns.

Follow-up

June 30 2008, 8:35 AM

Hi Randy and Sanford,

Randy - I do know Anschutz, but have no direct experience with their air rifles. I have a Model 54 Super Match (1413) vintage 1962 in a box at my sister's house waiting for me to retire and return to the US. I practly slept with that gun from 1962 to 1966, then went off to college and got distracted. My Diana and Anschutz compare rather closely in balance and shootability. The light trigger on the Diana is in a whole other realm however. Shot the Anschutz under NRA rules which meant a 3 lb trigger. Man the Diana is nice!

Sanford - Here is a link to the gun I purchased. (I hope posting links to other sites is not against forum rules.) http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=101843864 The pics, as always, do not do the wood justice. A very nice piece of walnut. And the blueing and finish is top grade. Google Diana 75 and you will get some good images as well. The price was on the low side for sure given that the gun is 95% or so. And it has been exceptionally well cared for by the original owner. Note that this is a very early 75, end of first year of production. There are a variety of stock configurations and the trigger changed too I think.

I am one very happy new Diana owner.

John
