C-Mount??

July 20 2008, 8:40 PM

Hi Holdover, I would pass on the C-Mount if I were You. Personally I think I will need a few more years exp. before I can figure one out!! Do some research on them. Just my 2 cents. Tim.

Check with PA they have the new Lock Down mount that will be replacing the C-mount. I got mine from RWS to replace my bad C-Mount.

come on

July 21 2008, 3:06 AM

Come on now, I have a beautiful 460 that needs to be compensated for barrel droop and shock before I can start doing some real shooting with her .

I saw those mounts on PA for $17 which is a great deal but I think the 460 might need some thing stronger .I have bought a C mount and havent mounted it just yet. I figured out the windage easily enough but im not sure yet on elevation. And if this mount is going to work.

Im just new to airgunning, and airgunsmithing, not shooting in general. But Im learning fast .Lots of good info on the net.

Your decision

July 21 2008, 3:35 AM

since you have the C mount already then put it on the 460 but;

Umarex does not sell them anymore, why do you think this is?

what Tim and Jim wrote is SO very true, there is a special grave yard for mounts and the C mount reigns supreme in that landfill, call Umarex and see if they will exchange the mount for their new one

warren

PS: sorry about this but the C mount was a poor experiment for Dianas air guns

and remember "it's 30% the gun and 70% the shooter"

C-mount

July 21 2008, 7:55 AM

The gimballs broke on my C-mount about 1 week after I mounted it on my 350. The first 75-80 shots went fine and the gun was dead accurate. Gave me a chance to get a couple of groundhogs out 40yds. After that I started losing zero every 15-20 shots and had to keep adjusting the elevation and windange screws that came loose. Not only that, the ring/scope screws starting coming loose too! After I while I stipped all the screws and then ripped the dang rings out of the mount which came out pretty easily because the gimballs were cracked so the rings were floating on the mount - completely useless.

I probably should have waited to mount a scope on the 350 until after it was broken-in some (at least 500-600 shots) because the gun was "rough" when new and didn't settle down until it had about 800 pellets through it, but I doubt that would have prevented the C-mount from coming lose or breaking.
It is highly recommended that you wait until you have put a couple of tins through your (untuned/stock) Magnum springer before mounting a scope. I did not know that at the time and had not found this forum until I started having issues. I enjoyed shooting my 350 on open sights throughout the Fall & Winter hunting season though. I had no regrets and I think everyone should shoot their springers on open sights first for a while at a distance their eyes allow, before installing a scope.

TWO types of C mounts

July 21 2008, 9:57 AM

the first batch was made in Korea, of strong steel and was well made, except for the locking screws that were cone-nosed instead of dog-faced. Just an idiotic accountant's way to "value-engineer" something. IF (big IF) your mounts are made of steel, they can work OK if you make the screws into dog-faced screws.

If your C mounts are "second generation", the next idiotic accountant's "value engineering" and are made of aluminum, throw them away or exchange them. Sorry!

If yours are made of steel, post here and I'll walk you through'em.

I have had a set for well over 5,000 shots on top of my Vortek-Diana 52 in 4.5, shooting 900+ fps with JSB heavies (10.2 grs.) the scope is a 2-7X32 AO Swift with spring-buffered lenses, best hunting scope around. The whole outfit is made of now-discontinued things, but it sure shoots good!

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Thanks for the help guys , I have the receipt ,and Ill take em back . I was thinking of trying the leapers mount for RWS on PA.

So you guys are saying I shouldn't mount a scope yet till its really broken in . Im supposing because of the kick. Im a little disappointed about that , but its good to know I guess

I did tune my 34 on Sunday thanks to the help I received on here. the cocking firing are like whip cream . and the accuracy has seemed to improve a lot also, There was a small nic in the chamber seal.Didnt seem real bad But Ill keep my eye on it if anything gets goofy

Im a little intimidated to break down the 460, but after seeing the results on the 34 Im going to have too.

I was thinking about one of these:

https://www.airgunsofarizona.com/

BKL either the 568 Weaver adapter, or the D4 or D7 with droop compensator.

I just want to shoot my damm gun . There is so much junk on the market I have to research every product because of all the bull, The shooters on here are the only ones I trust

One reason I bought the 460 was because RWS makes a good gun. I figured I d save myself some aggravation by getting a reliable gun with a reliable scope.

It has become a major hassle to obtain a reliable mount as there are so many variables .

sorry for the bitching , I just want to have some fun with it .

Let me know what ya think about the BKL's

Thanks

Just Want To Have Fun!!

July 22 2008, 6:46 PM

Hey Holdover,, Tim Here!! Hang tight Bud,, Help is on its way,,there are some folks here that will shurely help you soon!! Im not much help to Ya as I do things a little "differant" than most. The scoping issues associated with Diana guns is getting better. Sorry if I seem "evasive" pertaining to info Holdover,, I have NO EXP. with the newer mounts,, I honestly dont know anything about them. Hang Tight Bud. Tim.

Re: Just Want To Have Fun!!

The NEW RWS Lock Down is for the most part a BKL copy. The main deference's are the two stop pins made to work with RWS pin hole spacing. And there is a laser etched arrow that points to the front of the gun so that your droop is set right. It uses the same friction materiel in side the rings like the BKL. Both are great mounts. I've shot a whole box of CP 22s and the scope is still right on the mark. I'm shooting a RWS 54 which is know for being hard on the optics. Some think that the 54 would be nice to the optics but the fact is that the scope is on the action and not on the stock so there is no isolation and the scope also get to feel the impact of the action hitting the stops. The main reason that I use the Lock Down is that I sent my C-Mount back to RWS and was told that a new mount was replacing the C-Mount and that they would upgrade me and that the C-mount was discontinued. Also all new RWS guns that come with scopes would have it. RWS says that this will end the mount problems that has plagued the line. I installed the BKL on my friends 52 months back and it is just as good as the day we put it on. You can't go wrong ether way.

Good Luck hope this helps

Jim
