That begs the question

July 30 2008, 9:19 PM

What, then, are "demo's"? Demo's usually aren't repaired/rebuilt. They are demonstrators. Are these refurbs, then?

Yes Refurb/Demo is one and the same for Umarex

July 31 2008, 2:34 PM

Mine just arrived with the "R" stamped on the forearm stock both sides and under the caliber designation on the receiver. Hardly noticeable when factoring the price. My only other Refurb was the RWS 850 which turned out great! Great bargains at $165 which now is reduced to $136 for those who are going to mod anyway...

Pelleteer, but do we get to know what was wrong with the gun? Refurbished could many many things, from minor scratches to major defects which Umarex guns seem to be picking up. I had two bad RWS 34 springers, new out of the box, first one locked up shot after 20 shots, the second one had a rough stock, rough edges under the trigger guard, and the breach hole was not exactly centered

So my question then would be then... Are these kind of guns being sold back to public rather then being send back to the factory? Or is it strictly demo guns?

I would think these are problem gun returns

August 1 2008, 5:29 AM

for function or cosmetics or unhappy customers. Mine had some minor gouges underneath the stock in the cocking slot from shooting on a hard rest. Metal finish was fine.
This gun had "R" stamped on both sides of the stock and once on the tube under the caliber designation similar to the markings on my RWS850 refurb. I covered the small gouges with finish and it is now barely noticeable. It feels dry when cocking like all RWS guns I've bought so I'll lube with Moly and check the spacer/breech seal and spring/guide fit.
The only reason I bought this gun is I have the 300R,46E and thought this was a bargain at $317. This is my first open breech single shot underlever as I usually go for the multi shot/tap loader underlevers.

this is why..

the 'R' guns scare me. You are basically taking a gamble with these guns. If they have scratches or gouges or rough surfaces, or blueing problems, etc., then that should be indicated for each gun. That and my probably my other biggest fear is they won't shoot properly.

Call me picky, but.....

August 1 2008, 5:08 PM

A refurb is just that and not a demo. A demo, insofar as any other commodity is concerned, is a demonstrator that is being sold as slightly used. You wouldn't buy a demonstrator car and expect it to have made a trip or two to the body shop. Returned for service is just that. Frankly, for the difference, I don't see the bargain here. Especially with the "R" designation. How about just calling them refurbs?

"Old Tim " Here.

August 1 2008, 8:40 PM

Just want to say: I have been pretty hard on Umarex before. When I was I felt I was in the right. Refirb,,Demo?? Are all here so nieve as it seems alot of Americans are now?? (Dipping into politics for a second). These guns are obviously reconditioned returned guns. DUUUUUHHHHH!! So what does that mean?? Lets see,, 3 years ago when I bought my first Diana from Bass Pro Shops,, I was AMAZED at the groups I got at 40 yrds. When I shot it at 10 yrds. it hit LOW?? That cant be right I thought,, I returned the gun. Traded it for a more expensive Diana,,,, SAME thing!! RETURNED AGAIN!! Both guns were PERFECT condition with NO problems!! Being new to airguns I just did not know any better. Im shure both were sold as "Refirbs" & someone is shooting a 34/48 I wish I still owned!! Seems to me from what I have seen,, Umarex is even standing behind these "refirbs" with repairs even though they dont have to. Im just trying to say,, looks to me like the folks at Umarex are making a VERY honest effort to listen to us & progress. My hats off to them. Thank you Ryan & Glenn for listening to us here. "Old Tim".

Re: "Old Tim " Here.

I wish this was the case in all of them...but they advertise them as Demos to us and stamp them as R guns. And they should be saying Refurbished rather then demos..... that's a major difference. So I guess these guns could be a lottery to a buyer and are best hand picked on the spot rather then over the phone. I really hope that they don't resell lemons to us, it really stings getting a bad gun out of the box..

Whatever You Want to Call them??

August 1 2008, 11:00 PM

A long time ago I said,, Would be nice if someone from Umarex acually owned & enjoyed shooting Diana guns. ( I think I may have said something like, I wish they would read here & join us) Seems that has happened. I would like to take this opportunity to WELCOME you to Diana Werks (On my behalf) Glenn. I certainly hope others here will do so as well. I dont know you as "Glenn Umarex",, only as Glenn,, a fellow airgunner. Hope we can ALL do so as well. Ole Tim.

I just hope that they don't sell people unfixed lemons back, that's all... refurbished is not a demo, it is misleading for people

Hold on

August 2 2008, 11:57 AM

Umarex sells refurbished and Demos, they are all the same but the dreaded "R" is stamped in the wood stock and the action

warranty?? is 1 year

I have 3 "R" or Demos in Model 34 and 48, the 48 did NOT come stamped but the 34 and the 40 did, the price I paid is below (way below) what you pay for a new air gun

have I had problems with my "R" air guns!! NONE they are remanufactured and true to the target by other members of this forum (I send the air guns and they tested them)

just ordered the 350 from Umarex (refurbished) to my collection of Diana's

warren

and remember "it's 30% the gun and 70% the shooter"

My 460 is shooting 14.3g CPHP's at 834 and CPoints at 840

August 3 2008, 10:38 AM

My 460 is shooting 14.3g CPHP's at 832 and CPoints at 840fps. Haven't grouped the gun yet but offhand tests of 200 rounds showed good accuracy and repeatability on a sub gold ball sized target at 50 yards with either/both pellet types. I'm using the B-Square 11mm/Weaver adjustable mounts (wished I would have seen the new Leapers for $17) but I had this mount lying around. Like Roald told me - its a magic gun... I'll shooting it side by side the .22 HW90 this winter/spring.

Umarex and DEMOs/REFURBs

August 5 2008, 5:45 AM

If I may, my 2 cents. I bought a Demo/Refurb 48 at the beginning of July. It had problems with locking up when cocking. I called Umarex and Ryan said sent it back- we will fix it. I knew these guns did not have a warranty but was delighted that they would fix it anyway. Well, got it back and while there were noticeable improvements in the smoothness of cocking (which means that they DID break the gun down and try to fix it), it still hung up. Called Ryan again, he said sent it back. I asked if I could upgrade and he said that I could. He would even throw in some pellets to cover the costs of shipping it back again. IMHO Ryan and Umarex are doing more than they have to given that these guns are not sold with a firm warranty and at greatly reduced prices.
