How do you install a 48 breech seal ???

My chrony numbers are a little low. I installed a new Umerex breech seal when I installed the Maccari tune kit and Apex seal. I also honed the compression tube with a 400 grit disk brake caliper hone and dark cutting oil. I pushed the new breech seal all the way to the bottom of the hole it fits into in the compression tube. Is that the proper way to seat it or should I have closed the breech on it and let it push it home that way?
I have another breech seal. Should I try another? Should I shim the back of the seal?
Help!
Thanks,
Rob

When I installed the breech seal on my 48 I pushed it in with thumb pressure then closed the action to complete the setting.Worked fine for me.

You know what? I bet that big Maccari spring pushing against that breech seal is enough to seal it.

Hey Tim, I couldn't resist. I took the front sight off and did the "Old Tim Barrel Blow" on it. I don't think it's leaking.
I also took a couple puffs on it too. But I didn't inhale! This is what can happen if you inhale and don't get elected president...

All I,ve ever done was pressed them in and shut the breech.I,d fire it for awhile and see if it comes back to life. I,ve learned something shimming breech seals. If the gun needs a shim your fps will rise, but if it did,nt need it you.ll know because your fps will drop off and you.ll feel a weird shutter when you fire the gun.It smashes the breech seal too much a restricts the hole causeing your piston to bounce.Basically I test every gun that comes through the door till it,s right. So far I have to make my own shims.

How low is "low"

A few FPS are usual with a Maccari kit. More than 50 fps may indicate the need for some other stuff needing correcting.

If you have checked the gun's sealing by blowing, some of us Geezers do, you are not only checking for the breech seal, but also the piston seal. If you did not find a leak in that way, it means that the gun is sealing properly and the reason for the low FPS lies elsewhere.

SOMETIMES, honing will LOWER MV. It has to do with the controlled dieseling effect we get in every shot from our springers. YES; they ALWAYS diesel a little bit. Problem is when they diesel too much.

Do the following tests:

1.- Use the factory seal and measure MV

2.- Space the REAR of the spring and measure MV

3.- Space the FRONT of the spring and measure MV.

Do all this ONE AT A TIME.

From the information gathered we will be able to draw our conclusions, so we need you to post the results.

It's a lengthy process to get the gun "figured out and hooked up", but it's part of the fun!

I'll await the results of your tests.

Un Abrazo!
