How do you know so much about air guns and about what's going on in the air gun industry? Would you mind telling me (us? maybe someone else would like to learn too)a little about you? Inquiring minds want to know! Hope that it is not too personal. Thanks! Terry
I have been SERIOUS about airguns for about 3 years now. (Old Tim) I have learned SOO much very quickly in the last 3 years. Now,, Hector has been as serious as I have been for DECADES!! Not saying Hector is "Old",, he & I are the same age. Just saying he has been devoted ALOT LONGER to airguns than most here. I hold Hector in the HIGHEST regard,, not only about his knowledge of airguns,, but,,also,, you will find NO ONE with a higher level of integrety. Just sayin Terry,, there are some here that are beond reproach,, Hector is one FOR SHURE!! FACT. "Original Tim".
My 52 years of history may be just slightly more colorful than others', but I have been involved with the arms industry for a long time.
It all started about 36 years ago, when I entered into a special branch of the Mex. Army (Co-In. Ops.)
Commission evolved to the point that I became a part in the process for specifying and ordering of special equipment. When I left the Army I did so with a scholarship to the UK for PostGrad work in Electrical Engineering, so I left the weapons world for some time.
After three years in the UK I came back to a devalued, bankrupt country and had to start again my life. Not easy.
Anyway, let's just say that guns have saved my life more than once and when the Army became obsessed with controlling firearms in México and all my friends had retired making it almost impossible for me to enjoy firearms, I became enamoured again with airguns.
When you learn enough about ballistics (interior, exterior and terminal), and about mechanics of high speed phenomena, you can extrapolate what happens in one instance to another. Experiments then confirm or dismiss theories that quickly build into a body of knowledge that is continually challenged and tested.
Guess that deep down, bottom line, I am just a scientist.
Thanks for your kind words and I do appreciate having friends like Tim and others that distinguish me with their correspondence and sharing of ideas.
And one thing I've noticed, when you talk to people that know, you strike immediately a level of understanding that goes beyond anything. It borders on instant trust. Thereby I get to correspond with all sorts of people that are truly IN the industry and they tell me things and also tell me when to share and when not to share. Respecting their wishes only re-inforces that trust.
Do feel free to ask anything, I would just kindly request you to be somewhat more private.
Hector, being a psychologist by profession (disabled now due to severe neurological problems), I am fascinated by people and their lives. I have read many of your postings and I know that your knowledge of the physics and mechanics of airguns did not come from just being a weekend warrior. That plus you being "furren" as we say in Alabama, I just wanted to find out a little more about you. I will definitely respect your wish for privacy in the future.
That being said, I would like to find out more about a lot of the great people on this forum. Just human interest - kinda like putting a face with the name so to speak. Of course, there are people here like OlD Tim that I don't want to know anymore about. Just kidding - Old Tim is definitely one of the more colorful characters hanging out here.
Again not trying to be nosy - just interested. Terry
