RWS 54 - A lose pellet dropped out of the barrel after loading and before I closed the breech on it. Yeah, I made the mistake of holding the rifle with barrel up. It seems that the pellet has fallen inside the chamber while the gun was cocked. I could hear it inside rattling when I shook it, but couldn't get it out holding the rifle upside down.
I carefully, slowly released the psiton/spring (another mistake), and I think now the pellet is flattened inside the chamber. Is there anyway to get it out without taking the entire action apart or without trying to fish it out?
to allow a pellet to enter the compression cylinder. If you are certain that a pellet has found its way in there, the only positive way I know of to remove it is to open it up.If you don't know how to do this, their are tutorials on the web or better yet you have an excuse to send it to a tuner for some work.Ed K is THE man for this...
Looks like you are right. The pellet may have falled forward. I dont hear it anymore rattling, and the port looks clear. Took some shot and seems to work fine. May find the pellet flattened some place, some day in the action
"Mistake" 1 happens often; not necessarily drops out of the barrel, but maybe missed in putting it in. .177 is more likely than .22 due to the difference in size. Mistake 2 probably is a real mistake and you should avoid it. As was said before, falling into the transfer port is highly unlikely. The fix for dropping the pellet during the load is to hang onto the cocking lever firmly enough to avoid accidents and turn the gun upside down somewhere that will allow you to positively know when it falls out. This, of course is easier said than done in some conditions like hunting in the woods, but you get the idea. Sometimes you have to shake it and change angles, but mostly, the pellet fall out. Worst case when you close the breech and you are not really sure that the pellet fell out, close it really slow and stop at any resistance and check again.
