After reading several reviews, I decided to get a Bushnell Legend 5-15x40 for my 54. I have the Leapers Diana Drooper Mount for the 54, Leapers medium rings, and with the scope elevation set all the way down, it's still 8 inches too high. I decided to shim the rear rings with film, two pieces, and it's still about 8 inches too high. What to do? Help please.
My recommendation: send it back and get one of the Beeman one piece adjustable mounts. It costs more, but it works. I had a similar Leaper's mount and could not get any closer than 2" left at 10 yards. Sent it back and I'm using the Beeman mount. Went to the range - fired three shots made one adjustment (in this case 'up' 3/4 of a turn) and it was withing 1/2 to 3/4" at 30 yards - scope easily accomodates the rest.
Considered your suggestion, but the Beeman 5039 mounts are out of stock until November at PA.
With the suggestion of a fellow forum member, I ended up having to shim the front rings with two pieces of film. It's zeroed now, but we'll see how long it holds up.
I tried using the regular one piece mount, but it drooped pretty bad.
So far I've only taken about 50 shots and it's CRAZY accurate. Dang, this thing is fun.
turn the base the other way and see what happens. If that doesn't work loose both the droop mount and the cheap rings and get a good one piece adjustable mount. The 5039 is what you want, and Pyramid isn't the only dealer that has them. Look around, you'll find them at most any reputable online dealer.
In case somebody suggests it, forget BKL 260 drooper mounts or any other BKL mount. BKL shut its doors and is not planning on reopening.
Thanks for pointing that out, I got so caught up with ordering from PA all the time, b/c everytime I order from them, I always have to order pellets as well. Going to get that 5039 wherever I can find it.
The mount I'm using is the new Leapers Diana Droop Compensator and two Leapers Medium Weaver Rings. It's got that built-in stop for the RWS rails.
The one piece standard mount I used was a Leapers and it still does droop.
If the compensator rail still doesn't work when you turn it around, get rid of it. That rail according to the specs on the PA site has 60+ moa compensation, or 20+ inches of vertical correction at 30 yards. Thats way too much. You shouldn't need more than a third of that.
Your best bet is to get the 5039, optically center the scope, mount it, then use the mount adjustments to zero the gun. Don't get too obsessed about stop pins either. The 5039 has a full length base with more than enough clamping power to hold securely on the 54 without a stop pin.
Amen to that. I've been using one of the Beeman mounts for several months. First with a BSA 3-12x and now with a Hawke 8-32x - it has never moved - at all. It's a top notch product. I would never use anything else on a magnum springer.
