This post was made for larry per his request. i borrowed these photos from a post made by howie1a in florida as this was his method of crowning that i used.

This is using a tool from woodworking to do a nice recrown on a rifle , I am using a C-5 countersink using a wood dowell put into the countersink backward in place of the drill bitt or you can wrap the the drill bit with painter's tape until the desired diameter is achieved, the part sticking out that you will put into your barrel will act as a guide to make the tool perpendicular to the bore , powered with a drill you can make a chamfer ( crown) very easy. , see the pictures I used an old piece of barrel left from one of my projects. I've used this countersink or one like it on ss wood plastics and mild steel and it can be sharpened or the angle can be changed when resharpening it just put it into a drill backward and sharpen in a bench grinder. to polish the crown after cutting it, old timmy showed me a trick about using chrome polish and putting it on the countersink and running the drill in REVERSE to polish it. i have re-crowned several barrels now using this method and it works very well and is easy to do.

for those chopping barrels thats very simple and straight forward. what about touching up an existing crown that maybe does not need to be re-cut, just
refined?

the angle is usually different so i use this tool and just re-cut a new angle on the crown. i thing i forgot to mention is to push a pellet down the barrel to the muzzle end before doing this and it will keep most of the shavings from going into the barrel. after re-crowning, be sure to clean the barrel well before shooting. i also us a little black paint to spray over the newly cut surface to protect from rusting.

Perhaps a safer way

I can see that your re-crowning would work but do you think that the rotating wood could harm the rifling as it is not so hard on airguns? I have just done a diy crown on my barrel using the ball headed screw and rough and fine grinding paste method this way the rifling near the crown dose not get touched.
KC.
