I am having Rich from Mich Tune, trigger job, magnum spring, and shroud my RWS 54. It is a .177 with a beeman 5039 mount with Bushnell 5-15 3200 scope. I was thinking of installing a bipod and would like to hear whether this is advisable on this gun and any experiences folks might have had. Any specific model recommendations or mounting tricks also appreciated. I REALLY don't want to go over $100 for the bipod. Shooting is done 99.9% from a bench at 10 to 75 yards. I need something in the 6 to 9" height range and will use the 6" height over 90% of time. Right now I'm using sand filled shooting bags with good results.
Thanks in advance

My former Bestuned RWS54(.177) was set up with the Uncle Mike's

October 27 2008, 6:36 PM

Sling Stud Kit where the stud in the forearm is held by a nut that is counter sunk from the inside of the stock which is a very sturdy set up...I used a Harris Bipod, using the bipod would yield a 1" or so POI shift upwards iirc...maybe it was down but it was easily a 1" shift at 25yards. I don't know of any reports where zero POI shift is experienced when using a bipod vs. off of bags...

Tony

That's what I was afraid of

I guess I'm gonna let the bipod idea go. I am going to experiment with a gel bicycle seat pad (about 1" thick) and very giving on top of my rifle rest omstead of my hand. I will post the results at some future date.
Thanks

I use a camera tripod with Gel Bike Seat Cover - PIC

and it works exceptionally well with springers...basically bought a piece of scrap plexiglass/lexan at my local plastic shop for $1, shaped it like a bike seat, added a T-nut with some expoxy, a seat cover/pad from Walmart along with a cheap tripod from Kmart...

Regards,

Tony

Try using a microphone tripod

and always try to use your hand between the gun and the tripod.

Mike tripods are about the length you are looking for and they are "cushy", as it is part of their function to isolate vibrations from the table into the microphone.

Dianac54 bipod

November 1 2008, 6:20 PM

The same question I was about to post.

I know that there is a original Diana 48, 52, 54 bipod foldable and extendable 9,5''-13,5'' (245mm - 345mm), but I am wondering how to be installed. Do we need to drill holes in the stock (not wery happy about it), or is there some other way to mount the bipod (maybe using the front hole in the stock with the screw in it)?
