they are on sale at http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2077747 for $2.99 per 175 cnt tin plus $.6.99 to ship the 10 tins I ofdered. I have good results with these in my 350 and 48 and for the price I find these to be an excellent value. I don't hunt with them though as they seem to penetrate to much but are a good substitue for saving your CP's if you want to plink. I have found them to be pretty consistent in the few tins I have used in the past. Some folks say these are not a very good pellet but I have found that not to be the case at all. Strange Dick's stores do not honor their online prices and want $4.99 in the store. To tell you the truth, I don't buy much from Dick's because of high prices but I bought this was a pretty good deal. Anybody used these pellets and if so, how did you find them to perform?

I shoot those a lot

November 18 2008, 12:00 PM

Between those and the Daisy wadcutters, there are no other .22 pellets off the shelf here. Luckily, most everything I have shoots them well. (The Daisy's are exceeded in their inaccuracy only by the couple tins of Chinese pellets I have tried.) May have to order some as they are $5 in the local Dick's, as well. You would think that the store price would be the same as the internet. Maybe it's a matter of floor space added in.

It's an EXCELLENT pellet

November 18 2008, 12:55 PM

I used it to bring home first place in the FT match held in Zapotiltic, Jalisco, a few months ago. Shooting a D-54 with Crosman's Pointed Copperheads aqainst an EV-2 in 0.177" with FTS's and an HW 97 in .20" cal. shooting JSB's.

Shootout was decided at 45 yards against the HW and we went 4 sudden-deaths rounds before he missed and I hit.

The same gun took the 2nd place in Silhouette against FWB and Anschutz guns (PCP's). First place was taken by a combination shoot (not an actual rule to my liking here, but a usage).

Although each gun is an individual and each gun will have preferences, the Crosman's weight does produce max energy out of the D-54.

My D-460, on the other hand, does not like them too much. It prefers the JSB Express (same weight different shape).

Do try them and if your gun likes them, buy a ton of them, as there is no guarantee that Crosman will not let the dies slip into death, as with some other pellets in the past.

Good luck!

Hector congrats to you & your D54! is it a .22?

November 18 2008, 5:42 PM

I'm going to shoot my D54 .22 in FT again this year -that is if I don't use my trusty D48 .22 open sights! Great shooting my friend!

Hector is spot on

November 18 2008, 5:50 PM

I believe Crosman recently discontinued the .22 wadcutters in the tin, although they still make them in .177. A fellow at the revolving gun show here had two tins for about $5, each and I will likely pick them up this weekend if they are still available. (Try finding pellets at a gun show. Although I have picked up an air rifle at the last three I went to.)

Hiya Red!

November 19 2008, 12:27 PM

Probably the fourth saddest day of my life was when, in a SHOT show, the Crosman guy said they would stop producing the .20" cal. Premiere.

The THIRD saddest day was when they made a "last batch" that was so horrible, it was useless! And I got stuck with 10 cases of useless antimony-lead alloy.

The second and first saddest days are purely personal and have no bearing here, but let me say that sometimes American companies simply cannot see the forest for the trees.

The .20" cal. Premiere was perhaps one of the best pellets ever made in the US and it was destroyed with greed and bottom-line-only concerns, when its contribution to the sport was invaluable and the prestige it gave Crosman and the American Airgun industry was deserved and well earned.

Not content with that, the same sort fell on the Red Diablos, the .20" cal. Sheridan labeled product made of pure lead.

Luckily, my friend Josef Schultz saw the opening and decided to make a good .20" cal. But geared to HW's and other European guns, it needs very accurate barrels to produce top accuracy at high power levels.

Anyway, let's hope that Crosman sees the light and keeps the Pointed Copperhead's quality up there, where it is now.

Keep well!

Yup!

November 19 2008, 12:18 PM

Which makes the win even more satisfying.

It was shooting a Hunter Class gun agains an Unlimited Class gun, and winning, LOL!!!!

Open sights really are TOO MUCH of a handicap in FT. Simply the game was designed for scopes.

NOW, IF (BIG; BIG; BIG!!! IF): all Kill Zones were true to life in the size and placement, I would not hesitate one minute to do it, it would be GREAT practice for hunting! But since KZ's and targets in and of themselves are NOT true to life, then it is just a game. Designed for scopes, I insist.

Perhaps we should start a THFT (True Hunter Field Target) International Club, as with modern day plasma and waterjet cutting techniques it is just as hard (or as easy) to make the traditional-at-times-idiotic FT's as it would be to make true to life ones.

Anyway, do get the scope rail of the gun cyanoacryllated in place (disassemble the gun, degrease with acetone, especially UNDER the rail, dry, and then put cyanoacrylate -Crazy Glue- under the rail. Crazy Glue will flow by capillarity under the whole thing and make the rail a one piece assembly with the receiver); get the Leapers Picatinney rail installed with the positive stop in front and about 0.040" of droop as a first pass, get some 4 screw low bases for your scope's diameter (1" or 30 mm's), this should clear the objective as the Leapers rail adds a little height; and install your scope putting some thick Teflon tape between the rings and the scope tube. Tighten Real well the rear rings, but leave just tight the forward rings.
Sight in your gun and when everything is just right, loc-tite (blue) ALL screws in place, one by one; keeping the prior torque.
Re-sight your gun (it WILL move POI) and start practicing like the bat from hell!

The REAL challenge in FT is the distance guessing and at some points in time, the wind doping.

A D-54 is more than up to the challenge against ANY gun; with the appropriate accessory behind the butt plate.

HTH and best of lucks!!!!

Walmart online even cheaper....

December 2 2008, 9:52 PM

Actually, they are $3.49 per 175 tin in .22. My local store doesn't have them on the shelf, but if you have them shipped "sight to store", they do not charge YOU any shipping charges vs. the $6.99 at Dicks. That way, you could get small quantities if you like, or save another $2.00 off your $36.89 10 tin purchase. Past 11 tins though, it would swing back in Dick's favor.

No longer available at Dicks... I bought them all

December 3 2008, 6:32 AM

I found a 20% off internet coupon for Dicks and then bought all they had left. They only had 12 or I would have bought more. If you now check Dick's link above, it will not be valid. Sorry to anyone that may have wanted some. I know I am a pig but several of my guns love these pellets.

If I need more, I will do the Walmart thing so thaks for the tip.

Are the Copperhead pellets the same as in the tins?

December 3 2008, 8:21 AM

I remember Copperheads in a plastic belt case. I don't think the ones off the rack in tins say "Copperhead" but "Premier". Are these the ones being phased out? I will positively have to buy more!

Are the Copperhead pellets the same as in the tins?

These pellets referenced do not say Copperhead or Premiere anywhere on the tin. Just says "pointed premium grade". Crosman web site does not show anything other than BBs now with the Copperhead name. I still see the old Copperhead packaged .22 pellets in the plastic tins on various websites with the manufacturers #P022 which is the same number as the pointed premium grade thus they are the same product in different packaging. I hope these are not going to be discontinued as they work just as well as premiers IMHO for less money.

You betcha!

December 3 2008, 10:27 AM

I've tried the Daisy wadcutters from WalMart and they do not seem to do nearly as well in most of my guns. If Dick's can't get any more of the Crosman pointeds, I'm going to be up the creek for off the shelf fodder. What the heck is wrong with Crosman?

Crosman pointed .22 pellets

December 15 2008, 1:41 PM

Just stopped by my local Dick's and bought the last four tins of pointeds. I don't believe they are restocking and these were the only .22 pellets they sold.

Funny pellet pricing at Dick's, by the way. I stopped at WalMart for something else on the way home and looked to see if they had any pointeds in .22. Only in .177. Now, Dick's wants $4.99/250 or $6.99/500 for the .177's, while WalMart has the same tins, although different cardboard packaging, for $2.49/250 plus a bonus 50 more. I think the 500 tins were only $6.49. Might pick up some of those 300 packs while they have them. Haven't tried those in my .177's but, if they do as well as the .22's, it would be nice. WalMart still carries the Chinese Daisy .22 wadcutters at $2.49/tin but my guns don't see to like them.

Guess I'll be forced to shop online.
