New spring and seal on the way for my 34 but what about.....

Okay, ordered my new spring kit and apex seal for my M34, now since I will have it apart, is it worth the trouble of installing the little posts (4) on the other end of the piston to prevent contact with the tube it rides in. I won't have problem doing it my self, being a machinist does have it's advantages, but is it really worth the time and effort to do that with what folks consider an "entry level" quality air rifle?

If you're talking about buttons similar to what Jim Maccari sells on his site, yes I think its a good idea. I put them on my Diana 46 so that there is less contact (rubbing) when the rifle is cocked and fired. Its a case of less wear with buttoning the piston. Come to think of it I've got some type of buttoning on most of the rifles I've been inside.
I don't know how long you've been into airguns or how much experience you have so please don't be offended if this is something you already know; on average my tuned airguns took better than a thousand shots to really set the tune. But once that time (number of shots) had been fired, oh man do the tuned rifles become sweet.

I have been shooting and reloading for over 35 years but I have only been using this type of gun for abour 6 months. I have a benjamin. but i hate pumping it(it looks like a real finger pincher) and only bought it to get rid of a wood pecker putting holes in my house.
But I saw this M34 on sale I bought it. I have about 2000 shots through it already. when I said "entry level" I meant compared to air rifles costing 400 to 500 dollars. I have been eyeing one of those rifles already!
There is a saying among cartridge rifle folks though I don't know wether it was Pope or Whelen who said "only accurate rifles are interesting". And boy is this LuftGewer Interesting!
The 34 with a Maccari tune kit and Apex seal makes a great shooter.
Drop me an email and I'll put you onto some little tricks that will further improve that fine rifle.

I bought the Tune up Kit and I thought it came with those other items. but if not I can make them, shouldn't be too hard to do. I have the needed measuring tools (and an optical comparitor at work).
I was planning on doing some internal polishing while I have it apart. I was even toying with the idea of Jeweling or Engine turning the piston. but I will certainly do some polishing and very light stoning were applicable.
Well I put that Spring and Seal in my gun. I didn't have time to button the piston, but I will do that latter when I have more time. By the way I used the 4 Jaw chuck and Tail stock on a lathe to compress the spring. It was really quite quick.
It cocks smoother and It makes a much more solid sound when fired, no spring vibration buzz. So that is more pleasant on the ear. Accuracy is excellent. As always.
Thanks to everyone. this rifle really fills a gap in my shooting arsenal. I can use it when we go camping to shoot for fun or take small game and it doesn't drive my dog (or my wife) crazy with the noise. Though for field work I would like to get a .22 cal model. I would like to try a fixed barrel Diana. any suggestions?
I will never forget the time I bought my 34. RWS from Bass Pro Shops. Man, the feel of this great German gun was unreal. My first start of air guns was a Crosman Quest. I feel in love with shooting a air gun with the quest, but picking up the RWS just seemed like something special. Well I shot the RWS 34 all summer and thought this gun was the real thing.
THEN I MET MY FRIEND MZ! He told me to order a JM spring kit and he would "Tune" my rifle.
Holy ****! after the tune, the gun was morphed into a Thorough Bred! God, what a difference! Easier to cock, no twang, smooth as silk!!!! So much more accurate. I have since owned more guns. This 34. shoots as smooth as my R7. (or close) and my HW 30 (all tuned by Marcel) My 34 WAS a entry level gun. NOW IT IS MAN OF WAR!
