Rear sight is bottomed and have front sight pin bent straight up and its still shootin a tad high.
Anybody seen this happen before?
Any ideas other than putting on a scope?
Thanks in advance- Ron

Sounds like it may have been tripped off with the barrel broken open. Was it this way when you got it? Have you done any trigger mods? Have others shot it when you weren't around?

If you sight down the top edge of the stock next to the action, a crooked barrel can usually be seen by eye...but maybe not with just a quick look.

If it was mine, I'd bend the barrel down a bit. You need some droop.

Barrel bending....

February 4 2009, 4:10 PM

Well, I used to put the breech block in a vice, and strong arm it.
Then I built a bending tool very similar to this one:

Here is the whole thread from back on page three: http://www.network54.com/Forum/184474/thread/1219889501/last-1232145384/Can+a+rws+46++be+a+drooper

The barrels that I correct normally need droop removed instead of added.
HTH and Good luck,

Jeff

Quicker fix

February 4 2009, 5:13 PM

Have you tried a different front sight? I have a similar problem with a springer I'm shooting at 10m. Instead of trying to bend the barrel, I'm going to try a higher sight. You can tape or otherwise attach something like a toothpick to your sight, shortening it until you get to where you are comfortable with it throughout the rear sight's adjustment range. Then measure from the center of the bore to the top of the "sight" (or from the base of the sight, however you prefer) and see if you can make/order a replacement.

Thanks, Yep bent barrel down slightly and its spot on now

February 4 2009, 5:26 PM

Thanks for the help Jeff.

I strong armed it carefully in a wood vise and its spot on now.
You wouldnt think it would bend as easy as it does....
I was able to raise the rear elevation knob a spin or two now instead of having to bottom it out.
It probably did get snapped shut at some point as I just took the scope off and put open sights on when I noticed the issue.

Teaching my boys now how to give just the right amount of flip- just enough to smoothly lock instead of kinda closing a little too hard at times which I figure cant be good.

I am now trying to figure how to smooth this 36 out a bit, at it does thump and jump pretty good but it will group very tight with a steady hold.
Been shooting my boys .177 24D, and its a smooth shooter.
This seems a lot more harsh in comparison albeit more powerful.
Will read more on forums to research what is best.
Thanks again take care
