Heard there are some things that should be done for indoors ranges. One of the clubs I belong to has an indoor archery range that we would like to use for pellet guns also. Air scrubbers came up as being used at another indoor pistol range. Would anyone have information that would help me get this off the ground??
Also, we are looking to introduce younger people to the sport. The boxes say the guns are for people 16 and up. Rules in the state of Mass. for firearms is 18. Not much about air guns. Any information will be helpfull. Thanks and have a great day - Lee
I would love to see this sport of air guns take off. Land is getting harder for a lot of folks like me. Small simple air gun ranges would be a great idea. It would increase the awareness and also build a lot of camaraderie with other air gunners. This is really a sport that many folks are just not aware of. I wish I had somethng to offer you in the way of advice, but hopefully some of the other forum members see this and can help you out.
Some of the ideas I have are turkey shoots and competition shoots for pellet guns only. But to open to the public we have to protect our butts. One of the gun clubs in this area is where the 8 year old boy shot himself with an Uzi. So paranoia is high and clubs are scrambling for liability insurance for board members and chairpersons of different activities. Of course there is the lead contamination issue also. One suggestion for the turkey shoots is instead of meat, doing gift certificates instead to eliminate the food contamination issue. We need new stewards of the woods and waterways as people like me are aging and we need replacements. That is why the need of ways to draw the younger people in. Any ideas are appreciated. I have 1 gun shop and 2 gun clubs looking to sort out these issues so we can proceed. We know the joy of these guns, just need to let some others know. I can take my family out for a day of shooting for maybe $4-$5. Try doing that with powder burners!!! Have a great day everyone and stay safe out there - Lee
would be to remove lead from the air. If you're shooting 10 meter equipment that is not a problem - pellets will flatten and deform but they are not going to vaporize at those velocities. If you have appropriately designed traps, you can shoot 20 ft-lb guns inside with not problem - I have one with 10 pounds of 'Duct Seal' which I use indoors with my havier guns - the duct seal traps the pellets - again no vaporization. You would need ample backstops to stop errant shots - we've done 10 meter pistol, 10 yard British bell target and even short distance FT in the clubhouse at our shooting range (during winter months).
Hi Red, e-mailed Rich Stribrik from the Arlington/Fairfax club last Tuesday. At this point, I've had no response. Can you help me?? Thanks and have a great day - Lee
Haven't tried it, myself, just the rifle/pistol range. It's a 10M indoor. Some pretty good shooters have graduated from the lowly shed. One young lady, who now must have graduated on her college shooting scholarship, started out there. Went on to rimfire where one afternoon at the NRA National Hdqtrs range she set two new national records and tied a third. We have a LOT of talented instructors, both gun and archery, at the club. Let me know when you plan to make the trip.
