just for couriosity matters:
If I had enough money and would be able sending you my new 54 Airking .22...
what tune-up would you do?
wat would be the results for me regarding shooting my baby after the tune-up?
Lastly what would your work cost?
I would also want a nice bipod with it...

right now these questions are purely theoretical since I don't know if I could ship that rifle safely and won't run into troubles with customs.
drop me a line if you'd rather answer this privately.

Just curious - where are you located?

March 13 2009, 1:28 PM

I would probably chose John for work on my 54 if and when the time comes (currently a safe queen). But aren't there any tuners where you live? I know that in the UK there are the opposite numbers of John in PA. There should be some in your country, as well. Are there any local clubs or forums you could investigate?

I live in central Europe.
Reason I'm being vague about this is the law of my country.Hunting without being a hunter is strictly illegal.
Now, don't get me wrong - I would never go after anything larger than a rabbit - but even shooting a bird might run you into troubles. You'd lose your rifle and get some heavy fine.
I might search for tuners in Germany but I am not so sure if I could get a tuning there for my rifle legally since german law requires a weapons permit for air rifles over a certain strength which my 54 surely has. There seems to be the same issue with England...

bad idea and bad plan

Germany has a very good customs department, you could get away with shipping the air gun to the USA for a FULL tune but your odds that Customs will not find out are slim to NONE

now IF and a big "IF" you should ship the trigger and the assembly to have it it tuned by John in PA that is a part and you should have no no problem

and if you ordered the tune kit from Jim Maccari with a top hat and rear guide that would be a "no PROBLEM" again but I advise you against shipping anything (the 54 air gun) to the USA to get over the FAC 12 power and try to get a 20-22 fpp air gun from Germany, they are illegal and you will go to jail

get the trigger tuned and get the JM kit and have it tuned in Germany to what the LAW allows in FPS

warren

PS: think about this before you get into trouble

and remember "it's 30% the gun and 70% the shooter"

Isn't Germany still limited to 6 FPE?

March 13 2009, 5:41 PM

I thought that was still in effect. So, even if you pass the rigorous German hunting certifications (and, boy, do they ever make a US hunter safety course look tame!), you still might have an air gun that exceeds the limit, tuned or stock. Skirting laws is just not worth it, especially in light of the recent school shooting in your country. You may be asking for more trouble than you realize. I've known one or two kids who got into trouble like this and the consequences far out-weighed the fun they had.

yes.

March 13 2009, 11:42 PM

you're right.
First off, even though I supplied a german email I do NOT live in Germany :D
There's no 6 FPE limit in my country. The only limit is the calibre - so no big bore rifles without a licence.
Thats the reason why I cannot ship my rifle to Germany because for what I legally own right now in my coutry I would have to have a weapons permit in Germany already. The same applies to the english law which also has an FPE restriction.
So I believe that I shouldn't run into any troubles with my country's law if I would send the rifle to USA - especially if I would have a gun dealer sending it - but I fear the process of sending the rifle BACK OUT of the US could be difficult. I think there are export restrictions concerning rifle parts but I cannot remember clearly.

Anyways: I asked out of couriosity since even if there wouldn't be any problems the cost of doing all this would clearly exceed my financial abilities.

PS - I would not try breaking the law for the sake of a modified air rifle. It' just not worth it.

It would be easier to acquire the parts and have it tuned

The US isn't exclusive to air gun tinkerers. I am sure that if you look hard enough you will find some tuners where you live.
