first tin shot

I am getting used to my new 54. Actually I am growing on it. I never thought I'd ever have such a fine rifle. I simply like all of its features - even the often scoffed at weight doesn't really bother me. Surely a "real" .22 would weigh less but i would never get this sort of accuracy out of it: I've tried Weihrauch, Steyr, TOZ, chinese brands as well as Savage .22's but none ever came close to the results I can archieve now everytime I lay my hands on this masterpiece. As soon I know the distance to the target I know that I will hit it. Since my BSA scope has no mildots I think I will buy a laser range finder. This should also be helpful to finally have a distance spreadsheet attached to the stock of this darling where I could note the clicks necessary to adjust my scope to the given distance. I wonder if anyone could suggest a cheap range finder out to some 70-80 yards... Anyways, today I emptied my first tin of RWS Meisterkugeln cal .22 and this superb rifle constantly archieved five-shot-gruops of the diameter of my thumbnail on a distance of about thirty yards. I am really looking forward spending the remaining 2,000 shots :D Thank you, Diana for issuing such a perfect rifle!

If you know exactly where it's going, why not? There is no rule that FT cannot be shot with .22 - most rules state 'nothing larger than .22'. Most folks use .177 for two reasons - 1) flatter trajectory 2) less chance of a 'lockup' when the pellet hits the rim of the hole.

6 more tins and your good for the week,

And sure FT with a .22. The first match I went to with a hunting parner I was using a .22 Bam50 and he had a .22 48 w/4x scope and a good time it was indeed.
Lots of people shoot .22 and they place high in major events, some of us just improve our ranging ( just get any decent A/O scope) for Squirrel hunting.
What scope do you currently use? And if you really need a range finder the Leica units are nice.

John,

Its a BSA.
They have three different scopes for air rifles.
Mine is the smallest. No zoom, just a parallax compensator ring on its front end.
Dunno the type exactly. Got to look it up on the BSA site.

If you have a Sportman's Warehouse selling out nearby, you may be able to get a BSA 3-12x for around $50 - don't forget a GOOD mount.
