there are some things that can be done to fix it if you are capable of the disassembly and re-assembly of the gun and trigger group.
1. the mushroom like end of the piston stem has a sharp cuttoff that needs to be rounded slightly and polished. this sharp cuttoff tends to catch on the latch plates, especially if the piston stem has too much play.
2. the latch plates in the trigger need to be de-burred and lubed with moly. be sure and check their orientation and put them back correctly. bevels to the rear.
3. ideally the guide should be replaced with a metal guide with a centering ring that centers it in the trigger group. this may not be necessary if the first two things take care of it. they guy who made my guide did it without asking me and then told me he did not want to make others and i was sworn to
secrecy as to who it was. i think a delrin guide with close tollerances would also work. the stock one may or may not.
think the reason these guns with the sliding compression chamber display this problem more than the others is the accumulation of tollerances tends to create more of an alignment problem with the piston stem and latch plates. you have the clearnace between the piston and the sliding compression chamber and the clearance between the sliding compression chamber and the action tube. that is double what is in a break barrel rifle that does not have a sliding chamber. it could be that buttoning the piston and compression chamber would take care of this but you still have to deal with the sharp edges on the end of the stem and latch plate burrs.
If you want a steel guide like Larry suggests and you cant get one, you could send off for one from T R ROBB in the UK he sells them for 15 UK pounds and he usually has them ready made so it might not take to long to get.
Barry.
enough that i have it memorized. one thing i forgot to ask. is this a T05 trigger or T01? it does make a diffeence since the parts are quite different.
the T01 has two screws on the trigger. different latching mechanism.
Thanks JC for the schematics, however there is a link that shows a person that breaks down each part of the 54 step by step. I've seen it serveral times but can't remember where?
