A couple of Diana 34 questions

Just got a used but barely used Diana 34 and had a few questions for those who own this gun:

1. Is it normal if the gun is fairly new to almost have to hit/bump the barrel to initially begin cocking it? Likewise after loading the pellet the last 2-3 inches of travel sort of 'snap' into place. Maybe the bearing in there takes some time to break in? I became concerned after how smoothly it looks like the gun cocks in this video http://www.pyramydair.com/video/?video=leapers-rws-scope-mount-episode-6.flv

Anybody figure out what that stock cover/cheekpiece item is in the video? I kind of like it!

2. Thinking of getting the new 3-9x32 Bug Buster by Leapers. Does this sound like a good match or should I be looking at another scope?

Any other tips/tricks with this model are appreciated! These forums are awesome. Thanks for the info.

It is said that a new 34 has quite a stiff barrel lockup. Just needs breaking in.
Its probably dry as well, it would love a smear of grease.
I have a Leapers on my 48, so probably good choice.

I'd recommend a Leapers 3-9x40or50AO for medium ranges and 4-16x50AO for longer ranges and for a compact optic the BugBuster 6x32.

My 34 is topped by a 17 ounce Centerpoint 4-16x40AO IR mildot. She is a little girl with big glass, very heavy now. Keep your scope weights down unless you have the muscle to use it.

I had a 4x16x40 on and a 34 and it was way to big and heavy for me ! I went 3x9 and its way better field gun.

Re the scope

The Bug Buster is a very short scope and may not fit with where your eyes naturally align (i.e. too short). You could get an offset mount, but I found even that to be too short. Leapers 3-9x40 is a nice size for that gun.
