While I am a proud owner of two very nice Diana's, I have since learned to become as unbiased in Air Guns at least as humanly possible.(My Beeman R7 excluded) Since we have learned that Diana has chosen the US, not to be their favorite country to sell guns to, and have always wanted to see the USA begin to make a fine rifle. It appears that Crosman has really begun to get even more serious about their air guns. You can't argue with the success of the Discovery and the even more advanced Marauder. Now this. The new piston Nitro. I find this gun very interesting.

I love the fact that it weighs in at only a little over 6lbs. And I especially love the fact that it is rater VERY QUIET! Imagine that a quiet gun that is not a PCP with a shroud!

Bravo Crosman!

this is what counts

And these with 21 gr Kodiaks.

578

570
573
574 Less power than the CPs only ~ 15.5 ft-lbs

my take in reading the #'s is

with 14.3 gr. pellets the average is 752 FPS and the difference between low and high is 20 fps, not BAD at all

with the 21 gr. Kodiak's the average is 575 fps and the diff. between H and L is 12 fps, meaning this air gun is HOT

the #'s look good and the acurracy is acceptable, does someone know the price?

and remember "it's 30% the gun and 70% the shooter"

Re: this is what counts

in another forum and it said $149. If its a shooter, thats a good deal. Time will tell if the accuracy is up to Diana fan's standards. There's also something about wood and steel (I know the Diana triggers are plastic) that's steering me away from many competitors products (and yes, I want a version of the panther with its plastic stock).....Someone get one and give it a try!

I found out the retail price

June 23 2009, 5:02 PM

it is $350

maybe you can get it for $300 but I doubt it the Gas Ram alone is close to $150.00

give the 34 Panther a try or the Crossman??

I will hang tight to the fence on this one

Weight

June 23 2009, 5:54 PM

Rob,I stand corrected, the weight is about 6.9 lbs without a scope, but this is still light. The fact that the gun is rated #2 on the quiet scale as opposed to a #3 like most break barrels is significant. Very interested to see how well the 2 stage trigger works out.Here is the link to watch the difference in the "Quietness of the gun".

http://www.crosman.com/airguns/rifles/break-barrel

$350 sounds high, but the fact that most piston rifles cost more with them, is all relative. And the fact that even good Diana's are running close to that with some of the xtras. This will be an interesting topic for sure.

Looks Like A Winner To Me,,,

June 23 2009, 9:31 PM

A few are in the hands of others now & the responce thus far seems very positive. AOA has them listed @ $319. Tom Gaylord personally stated the shroud HAS BAFFLES. happy.gif The #,s posted by one reviewer were at high altitude,, keep that in mind. Paul Cappela was very impressed with the gun & the new "soft touch" finish. The trigger is a huge improvement over other Chicome types. The gun looks VERY nice in the pics. posted by Steve CT on the Yellow. I NEED one!! happy.gif "Old Tim".

A first look at the NPSS Nitro Piston by Jim House

June 24 2009, 4:53 AM

A number of benifits of this gun is the stock. This material which give a good gripe and feel is very interesting. Also this gun is advertised to be a lot easier to cock. It seems Crosman has some great new engineers, and they are listening to the shooters.

http://www.crosman.com/blogs/croswords/?p=229

* Nitro Piston Short Stroke rifle w/digital camo stock finish
* Breakbarrel
* Gas piston
* Bull barrel
* Adjustable, ambidextrous black comb
* Includes 3-9x40AO scope w/mil-dot reticle
* 2-stage adjustable trigger
* Reduced vibration due to the gas piston & the special carbon-fiber stock
* MUCH quieter than a metal spring!

Here the benefits of the Nitro Piston:

* Smoother cocking
* Smoother shooting
* Easier to cock
* MUCH quieter
* Less recoil (aids accuracy)
* No spring torque
* No spring fatigue, even if you leave it cocked for hours
* Functions perfectly in cold weather
* Lasts longer than a metal spring
